About
The Arc de triomphe was begun in 1806, on the orders of Napoleon I to honour the victories of his Grande Armée. Inspired by the great arches of antiquity, the monument combines the commemorative with the symbolic and it has always played a major role in the national republican consciousness. Every evening, the flame is lit on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier from the Great War. An exhibition portrays the history and explains its symbolic importance, nationally as well as internationally. The terrace provides superb views both by day and night across the city and its great sweeping avenues.-Opening hours : April to September: from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; October to March: from 10 a.m. to 10.30 p.m.-Closed: 1st January, 1st May, 8th May (morning), 14th July (morning), 11th November (morning), 25th December-Entry fees: Adults = 9,5 €; Concessions = 6 €; Free admission: 18-25 years old* (citizens of one of the 27 countries of the EU or are non-European permanent residents of France) * excluding school groups

- Sherry KHamburg, Germany9 contributionsA staple for every tourist in ParisYou want a picture of Paris with the Eifel tower...then this might be one of best places to do it. Sure you have to climb the 200+ stairs in a tight Spiral staircase to get there, but I think it was worth it. Tip: buy your tickets online beforehand it will spare you the line.Visited May 2023Traveled with friendsWritten May 14, 2023
- thisgirl_GrayLos Angeles, California2,384 contributionsMust do while in ParisVisited the Arc for the second time in my life. The first time was during the day, but this time was a night visit which I think is the best. This is an activity for the physically fit as there are over 200 stairs if you're planning on walking to the top; but the best views of the city are from the top and you can get a good view of the Eiffel Tower in the distance as well.Visited April 2023Traveled with friendsWritten May 14, 2023
- the_globetrottersNorwich, United Kingdom319 contributionsGood experienceGreat architecture and a must do whilst in Paris. Full of people taking selfies against the various carvings but still well worth a visit. We did not go inside as the queue was about 200m long and we were told you can only buy tickets online.Visited May 2023Written May 19, 2023
- Krista PNorthern Arm, Canada7 contributionsMy Favorite PlaceWe climbed over 300 stairs to the top of the Arc de Triomphe and the view was amazing. At the center of a big traffic circle and the meeting point of 12 roads, it is like being at the center of a clock. This was my favorite place in our 12 days in Paris and France.Visited May 2023Written May 23, 2023
- poltorToronto, Canada224 contributionsNice to seeA nice to see in Paris up close. Get the Paris Museum to skip the line and see the Paris skyline from the view from the top. A lot of stairs to climb but a beautiful view! A key landmark in Paris.Visited May 2023Traveled with friendsWritten May 27, 2023
- Marcus D609 contributionsDo not cross the traffic----use the underground entranceThis was our third trip to Paris but the first time we stood under the Arc....it is HUGE. Apparently, the entire city is cleaning and buffing for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The back half of the Arc facing Ave de la Grande Armee is fenced off and you cannot really get to see it. We went at night and just watched the cars/cycles/buses do their dance about the traffic circle.Visited May 2023Written June 17, 2023
- PANDEY JIVaranasi, India435 contributionsAll roads converge at Arc de Triomphe.Arc De Triomphe is like the city centre. Most of the roads converge here. Almost all metro lines pass through here. A historical monument visible from a distance. I skipped the part where we climb the top. You will easily come across the monument commuting through the city.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 3, 2023
- Cagsd86 contributionsWorth the tiring climb up 300+ steps!I had visited Paris many times before and often seen and photographed the arc de Triomphe, but until this visit I was unaware that you could actually go inside it and climb to the top. There were around 300 steps to climb so it was pretty tiring, but the views from the top were excellent. It's only about 50m high so you can actually see sights in pretty clear detail, and you can just keep walking round it till you have seen everything. There are signs up there so you can see what buildings you're looking at. There is an indoor section too with history exhibits and a gift shop.Visited June 2023Written July 4, 2023
- Zfy EdSingapore, Singapore8,655 contributionsNice landmark of the city! Beware of heavy human and car traffic! This monument is one of the most popular landmarks of the city that was erected by Napoleon in 1806 as a memorial to his victorious army. It is linked to the Champ Elysees to Place de la Concorde, one of the most luxury and busy shopping street of the city. This was our revisit to the city and even though we still felt happy and excited seeing this monument. You can enter and climb up to the top of the monument that offers you a good bird eye's view of the city but we didn't as we had done so in our previous trip. During our visit then, the roads surrounding the monument was heavy as the country was in the midst of preparing/rehearsing for the coming National Day. Some roads were blocked and heavy traffic around the area. It's worth to visit!Visited June 2023Written July 10, 2023
- Erkki N887 contributionsGreat view and a slice of historyA popular monument with great views and a small exhibition explaining its history. Time slot booking was not possible beforehand (why?) and there was a considerable queue when we arrived. However, since we had Paris museum passes, we could join a shorter line for those with tickets (highly recommended).Visited August 2022Traveled with familyWritten July 15, 2023

After reaching the summit of the Eiffel Tower, I had no issues with heading to the top of the Arc De Triomphe ...
However I was told there was a lift and after knee surgery 3 months previous and a fear of small spaces was a little shocked to realise we had the only option of a spiral stair case ... 280 up and back down
I encourage a night visit, as you can see the city lit up at night and see the Eiffel Tower sparkle for the first 5 minutes of every hour ❤️
€13 per person for a memorable tourist attraction

Quite impressive.
I would recommend buying the museum pass when you visit so you don’t have to wait in the long lines for tickets.
Climbing to the top is not terribly difficult, but thankfully there are elevators for anyone with mobility issues.
The view is great offering a full panoramic view of the city.

This another must do attraction in Paris, the price is very reasonable and once you get to the top you have phenomenal panoramic views of the city.
My recommendation is head there just before it starts getting dark as you get a one of a kind view of the Eiffel Tower when it’s lights come on and sparkle.
There is a shop inside too so you can buy souvenirs 😊

Went around mid August and it was really lovely. Worth to go up the momument but I would recommend to buy a online ticket before getting there. The queue at the ticket box can get really long. Would recommend sunset time as the sky turn pink and Eiffel tower is sparkling I believe I saw one of the best views in Paris.

Hotel were staying in located right by this iconic monument so we decided where better to start are french trip! We didn’t have to queue for long and there weren’t too many people about which was great.
Lots of stairs so be prepared to get those steps in. The views at the top are incredible and whether you are at the top or the bottom it’s simply stunning. Worth a trip and the money on the day cost about 13euro per person. It’s something quite amazing with all the intricate design work hand crafted. Would recommend.

This is a magnificent building with lots of security around it. To get close, you must take a pedestrian underpass. Walk along the outside of the ring road till you find what looks like a metro entrance. It isn't one.
The line to go up in the Arc is very long, and the climb is very tough, even for young people. The view from the top is possibly worth it, depending upon how much you like looking at a city from a high vantage point. The climb was probably too hard for us. Nothing in the gift shop was worth buying.
I think the best thing to do is probably to take the underpass, walk around outside the Arc, and photograph it as well as taking close-ups of the statues.

Whatever you do buy skip the line tickets to all attractions it is so worth it. Beautiful views of Paris. I would recommend you go at night as the lights are amazing and the Eiffel Tower lights up on the hour every hour. Good place to watch the crazy traffic below too. Lots of steep steps up and down but disabled can use a lift which leaves 47 steps to the top.

We went mid January mid morning and there was no waiting so skip the line isn't needed at that time of the year. There are 284 spiral steps to get up to the top, but there are some places that you can stand to the side to let others past.
Take the time to watch the film as it gives an excellent explaination of the history and the store has reasonably priced souvenirs.

two hundred years old - started by Napoleon - on one of the biggest and busiest traffic circles in the world; the Arc may not be as well known as the Tower but it is very impressive. The size of the Arc de Triomphe is deceiving - you need to wander the plaza below it (reading about the battles and the troops to whom the Arc is dedicated to) to see the size. there is an underground access and there you can buy tickets to go up. i thnk that the views woudl be very good as the surrounding buidligns are quite low but there was a substantial line both times that we were there.

So first things first buy skip the line tickets online. This will get you half way before still having to join a line. And the line is long. From outside the sculpting is very impressive and comprehensive. Once you're in it's a cool spiral stairway up to the top where you can read some very interesting history about the structure and then head on up to the roof for a lively view of the busy city streets below and monuments surrounding the arch.
Worth doing but be prepared to wait in line even with pre booked tickets.

There is a guided tour option on the website.
Has anyone experienced it?
I'm curious as to whether it's worth recommending.
And since English is not my first language, I am worried about whether I will be able to understand it well.

The Arc de Triomphe has free entry for 18-25 year olds that are from part of the EU. Does this include the UK now that we have left the EU or not?
