1915 — Second Battle of KRITHIA. Australian and New Zealand troops were redeployed from ANZAC Cove to Cape Helles to assist British and French troops

1945 — Germany surrendered to the Soviet Union after Stalin refused to recognise  the “Act of Military Surrender” signed the previous day in France

1970 — Up to 200,000 Australians participated in demonstrations against the war in Vietnam
