If Anya Taylor-Joy’s performance in Emma and Split is anything to go by, then we are in for a treat for her latest drama The Queen’s Gambit. Based on Walter Tevis’ 1983 novel of the same name, the film follows Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy) from the ages of 8 to 22 has she struggles with her journey to be a Grandmaster in chess. The limited series also stars Candace’s Moses Ingram and The Maze Runner’s Thomas Brodie-Sangster.

Considering all Marvel projects have been pushed back this year due to the pandemic, we’re in desperate need of anything superhero, and Marvel have heeded our calls. WandaVision is the upcoming mini-series which will follow the powerful and mysterious Scarlet Witch after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Set for release in December, the series will see the return of Marvel favourites Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings), Vision (Paul Bethany) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), for what is set to be an unmissable series.

We saw Dylan O’Brien and were sold. While it might feel like we’re living in an apocalyptic world with everything going on, director Michael Matthews is taking us on a monster-filled journey for his post-apocalyptic romantic comedy Love and Monsters. Seven years after a Monsterpocalypse, Joel Dawson (Dylan O’Brien) along with the rest of society are confined to live underground while giant monsters take over the land. But when he reconnects with his high school love interest Aimme (Jessica Henwick) who is over 80 miles away via radio, Joel realises there is nothing left for him underground, and makes the trek to reunite with his old crush. The hilarious comedy is set for release October 16th.

Now that summer is over *sobs*, it’s time to dig out the skeletons and get carving those pumpkins because spooky season is finally upon us – and what better way to celebrate than with Amazon Prime’s new thriller-filled anthology series, Welcome to the Blumhouse. The trailer showcases the first four films that’ll be hitting the streaming service in October and we’re already shaking. Titled Black Box, The Lie, Evil Eye and Nocturne, the four films takes us through experimental treatments gone wrong, suspicious boyfriends, psychotic twins and bloodthirsty best friends. With the films starring Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney, Joey King, Peter Sarsgaard and Mireille Enos – warm up the popcorn because this is set to be a blood-curdler.

Based on Daphne du Maurier’s 1938 novel of the same name, Rebecca takes us through a newly married young woman (Lily James) who finds herself in the shadow of her husband’s dead first wife, the enigmatic Rebecca. What starts off as the perfect relationship sounds turns sour and dark revelations come to light. Creepy Jane Eyre vibes all round.

Stock up on the tissues for this one. Starring Rollacoaster cover star Sabrina Carpenter and rising star Fin Argus, the teen flick takes us through Laura Sobiech’s memoir Fly a Little Higher: How God Answered a Mom’s Small Prayer in a Big Way whereby a young teenager tries to find himself while trying to leave behind a musical legacy at his school. But it wouldn’t be a teen movie without drama and heartbreak, and from the looks of the trailer we’re in for an emotional rollercoaster.
