Journalist claims Antonio Conte is keen on bringing 29-year-old to Spurs

Journalist Ryan Taylor has revealed that Antonio Conte is keen on signing an attacking midfielder in January, with Ruslan Malinovskyi alleged to be one of the names on the Italian’s wishlist.

Tottenham failed to get a deal for Malinovskyi over the line during the summer transfer window but multiple Italian publications have backed the North Londoners to reignite their interest in the Ukrainian in January.

Gazzetta dello Sport (16/11/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) reported two weeks ago that Atalanta are ready to cash in on the attacking midfielder in January, with the Serie A club said to value the player at around £15.5m.

While Italian journalist Rudy Galetti revealed at the start of this month that Inter are also eyeing a move for Malinovskyi, Sport Mediaset stated recently that Spurs are in ‘pole position’ to win the race for the Atalanta star’s signature.

Taylor has now become the latest journalist to confirm that the Lilywhites are eyeing a move for the former Genk Star, explaining that Conte is prioritising signing a number eight in January.

He said Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel: “That creative midfielder – if there is a player that is out there that is available, I know Ruslan Malinovskyi from Atalanta is one that’s been looked at, for example, that’s the kind of player that Spurs would be interested in, certainly Conte.”

If reports over the last few weeks are to be believed, it looks like Malinovskyi and Weston McKennie are the two names at the top of Paraitic’s and Conte’s wishlist for the attacking midfielder role in January.

The advantage that the Atalanta star provides over the USA international is that not only can he be deployed centrally in a 3-5-2 but he can also be used for cover for Dejan Kulusevski on the right of a front three.
