OLIVER Glasner’s soaring Eagles made it four unbeaten in the Premier League as they came from behind to draw 1-1 with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday, reports Lyle-Anthony Golding.

A wonderfully worked second-half goal for Rodrigo Muniz looked to be the difference between the two sides in West London, but second-half substitute Jeffrey Schlupp uncorked a late screamer to ensure the points were shared in this London derby.

Eberechi Eze was a massive miss for the Eagles with a knee issue, but the man who replaced him in the starting XI, Michael Olise, has bundles of quality in his own right.

Fulham had only won 1 of the last 8 PL meetings with Crystal Palace, and they were looking to bring a halt to their opponent’s three-game win streak.

The hold-up play of the man in form Jean-Philppe Mateta started a good Palace attack five minutes in. The Frenchman laid the ball into the path of Adam Wharton who then slipped a surgical pass through the Fulham defence for Olise, but his first-time effort 1v1 was wide of the mark. A huge chance that went begging.

The home side spent nearly the entire opening 10 minutes under siege. The Eagles, however, couldn’t force themselves into an early lead; despite a huge penalty shout after a Antonee Robinson challenge on Daniel Munoz.

Olise and Wharton combined again in the 25th minute, with the former’s jinking run leading to a piledriver from the latter that had Bernd Leno worried, if even for just a moment.

The home side was utterly stifled with half an hour played in the game. Despite having the overwhelming majority of possession, they’d mustered no shots on goal while conceding seven and looking shell-shocked.

Just before half-time, Joao Palhinha injected life into Fulham. His delicate ball over the top was right into the corridor of uncertainty and allowed Muniz to steal in and get a shot at goal. Dean Henderson was forced into his first meaningful action of the half to repel the danger.

The hosts started the second 45 with a spring in their step, and that vigour was rewarded within 10 minutes.

Pahlinha won the ball back in midfield and found Andreas Pereira with the Brazilian’s delicious pass freeing full-back Timothy Castagne. His cross was inch-perfect and reigning PL Player of the Month Muniz made Palace pay. It was the first real moment of quality from the hosts and boy did they make it count.

With 15 minutes to play the game had petered out into one of big clashes and half-chances, and neither side could find that last bit of thrust to give either set of supporters something to cheer about.

That was until four minutes from time. Palace picked up the ball midway into their opponent’s half through Olise, then Wharton. The 20-year-old played the ball into the feet of Schlupp whose first touch lifted the ball gently off the floor before his second blasted a strike right into the very top corner; three keepers wouldn’t have saved it.

It was a goal worthy of winning any game, but on this occasion, it ensured the spoils were shared.
