Antoine Semenyo made his Premier League debut and scored his first top-flight goal after joining AFC Bournemouth in January 2023.

Signed from Bristol City, the striker made 11 appearances in his first season with the Cherries and completed the scoring in a 4-1 win over Leeds at Vitality Stadium.

Football was in the blood for Semenyo, whose father Larry played for Okwahu United FC and Advance Stars FC in the Ghanaian Premier League.

Semenyo was playing under former Leeds United and Forest Green Rovers manager Dave Hockaday at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College's football academy when he alerted the attention of Bristol City.

He signed for the club in 2017 and immediately spent time on loan at National League South side Bath City, scoring six times in 16 games.

Semenyo made his Bristol City debut on the final day of the 2017/18 campaign, replacing future Cherries teammate Lloyd Kelly in a 3-2 defeat to Sheffield United.

The forward joined Newport County on loan for the 2018/19 season and he made his mark in the EFL, scoring six goals in 32 games before being recalled by his parent club in January.

During his time in Wales, Semenyo played a key role in a famous run to the FA Cup fifth round, beating the likes of Leicester City and Middlesbrough before finally being defeated by Manchester City.

He became a useful option for Bristol City for the rest of 2019 before spending time on loan at then-League One Sunderland in the latter half of the 2019/20 season, playing nine times.

Semenyo began to establish himself as a regular member of the Bristol City squad in the 2020/21 season, playing 50 games in all competitions and being named the club’s Young Player of the Year.

He replicated the achievement in the 2021/22 campaign, adding further goal contributions in a sensational year.

In 32 appearances, Semenyo scored eight goals and assisted 12 as he highlighted the full range of his abilities as both a finisher and creator.

His fine form continued into 2022/23, scoring three goals in his first four appearances of the season.

Semenyo’s performances began to attract the attention of a number of clubs in the Premier League and he scored a further four goals in five games across January 2023.

It was the Cherries who won the race for the exciting forward, completing a permanent transfer midway through the 2022/23 season, the third arrival at the club during the January transfer window.

As well as impressing on the club stage, Semenyo established himself as a member of the Ghana national team in 2022. He made his debut as a 75th-minute substitute in Ghana's 3-0 victory over Madagascar.

He was selected to Ghana’s squad for the 2022 World Cup, appearing in games against Portugal and Uruguay in the tournament.
