the word above states it clearly. A must own for the Boingo fan. It disappeared from my car. found upon an early arrival home when the blaring sounds of the Anthology were heard emanating from my 15-year old son's room. Danny Elfman is a true master of sound and lyric.
Wanted a CD copy for my car (as opposed to all my Oingo Boingo vinyl!) LOVE IT...didn't realize how much I missed all this music. There just isn't anything else like it anywhere!
...this is an excellent place for newbies to start, and for the remastering alone, a required purchase for people like me.
The selection of songs covers their career nicely, thoughtfully adding in songs from Danny Elfman's solo disc, and a few live tracks.
I'm a bigger fan of the first three albums, and would purchase remastered versions in a heartbeat. The few songs chosen off those discs sum that era up well.
Their later stuff, like "Dead Man's Party" on up, is more hit and miss. Less manic, but possibly more "musical" and less "crazy". The songs they've chosen exemplify that era nicely too.
The remastering here is absolutely suh-weet! I haven't heard "Only A Lad" or "On The Outside" sound this good since, well, ever. I've come to appreciate their musicianship a bit more because of this...
If I had to complain, I truly miss the studio version of "Goodbye Goodbye", purely for sentimental reasons. But I'm being fussy...
If you have ANY sort of affection for '80's music...for "new wave" or "alternative" rock...for some of the flat-out most fun music ever to dance across your eardrums, then this CD should be in your collection!
I gave it as a gift to my boyfriend, a huge Oingo Boingo fan. He loved it. I'm new to them, and think the band is great (although quite odd, as fans know well).
I'm someone who just discovered Oingo Boingo a few weeks ago and was looking for a comprehensive collection of their songs. So I can't say whether this collection is their BEST or not, but what I can say is that I enjoyed just about every song on this collection and, if it isn't their best, its still pretty darn good.
I docked it a star for two reasons:
1 - Along with this collection I bought the 20th Century Masters CD and I found that many of the songs on this CD were different versions (Only a Lad for example is vastly different). The versions not on in this collection aren't the radio versions so for someone buying this collection wanting to hear that version, you won't get it.
2 - The last part of the 2nd CD consists of some live songs from their final concert. Again, perfectly enjoyable but since the studio versions aren't also on the CD you lose out on those.
Anyway, still a great CD but if you want to get the full experience I'd pick up this and the 20th Century Masters CD.
