A good overview of Todd's career, including material from every one of his solo studio albums proper from Something/Anything? to A Cappella, plus the first Nazz album and both Runt albums. The selection is judicious, though, inevitably, slanted towards the pop balladry side of Rundgren's work, as opposed to the freaky experimental stuff, the hard rock tracks, the comedy songs, or the prog stuff. Given, though, that Todd is one of the finest pop songwriters of his generation, that means that this ends up being excellent but unrepresentative, instead of deeply flawed. There's nothing from Utopia on here, but Anthology 1974-1985, a companion release, gives Utopia's discography similar coverage.
In a show of care that shouldn't be surprising, but is, the booklets actually contain all the lyrics, in addition to a brief biographical essay on Todd and a bunch of photos.
The only real competition in the "Todd anthology" stakes is the decade-later, UK-only release Go Ahead, Ignore Me: The Best of Todd Rundgren. Go Ahead, Ignore Me has the advantage of packing its discs more full (41 tracks there vs 27 here, though it also includes Utopia material- the Utopia companion to this release has 16 tracks, for a total of 43), but has the disadvantage of drawing its material exclusively from Rundgren's Bearsville catalog (so no Nazz, no Utopia post-1982, no Todd post-1983), and it's weighted more heavily towards Todd's most popular material (eg fully nine tracks from Something/Anything?).
All these releases are now long out out print, and the only general Rundgren compilation in print is 1997's somewhat anemic single-disc The Very Best of Todd Rundgren.

A few good songs, but the rest are pretty mediocre (especially for a greatest hits compilation).

I think this is out of print but if you can find it it is a great introduction to tods music.
