If I booked and paid for another passenger’s flight, who will receive the e-credit in the event of a cancelation?

Help/Advice

What the title says. I recently purchased a flight (non-refundable, main cabin) for somebody else, and while I’m not in a situation where I expect to need to cancel the flight, I’m curious what would happen if we did need to cancel. Would I receive the e-credit as the person who purchased the flight, or would they receive it as the ticketed passenger?

They will receive it as the ticketed passenger.

It goes towards their sky miles number.

Them, no question. I usually accumulate a few thousand dollars worth of credits from canceled or rescheduled work trips every year…

ECredit goes to the ticketed passenger. Sometimes you can talk a phone agent into crediting your (buyer) account but it might be under certain circumstances. I use miles to book for others as cancelled flights will put the miles back into my account.

This just happened to me. I booked and paid for a flight for my employee using my sky miles account; I didn’t add her email when booking... not sure if that’s an option. After booking, I was emailed the confirmation and itinerary. I was emailed a “time to check in” nudge and also received it on my phone.

Well, plans plans fell through the day before so I cancelled the flight through the app. I immediately received an email with ecredits.

The following week I rescheduled her flight and used said ecredits for her trip.

This is all wrong. Yes you got all the emails but that credit could only be used by a passenger with the same name as the originally ticketed passenger. Credits follow the passenger not the email or skymiles number.

Goes towards the other passenger, but you probably could transfer the e-Credit if you call/message Delta

If you paid for the ticket with your credit card, the e-credit for the other passenger’s credit unused ticket can be transferred back to you if that passenger agrees to pass it back.
