The first look at Anne Heche’s final film is here.
A recently released trailer for “What Remains” depicts a paroled convict (Kellan Lutz, “FBI: Most Wanted”) as he returns to the town where he murdered the wife of a pastor, played by Cress Williams (“Black Lightning”), who is trying to find forgiveness in his anger and pain.
Heche plays a local sheriff who is investigating another mysterious homicide that may be related.
In a new clip shared with Deadline, Heche’s somber character drops some shocking information on the pastor as she presses him on his whereabouts on the night of the murder.
The movie from writer-director Nathan Scoggins was the last project Heche completed before her untimely death in August following a fiery, horrific car crash. Prior to wrapping production in October 2021, she also worked on a movie with Alec Baldwin and Skeet Ulrich called “Supercell,” as well as the HBO series “The Idol,” both of which have yet to come out.
After her passing, Scoggins wrote that Heche gave “her very best,” bringing “good humor, focus and determination” to the set.
“She was playful, often laughing and joking with me and members of our crew between takes; she was proud of the work she was doing,” he said in a remembrance for Variety.
“She shared with me some of her life’s struggles — I didn’t know that she’d taken my film in part because I shared the name of her brother, who had died when she was young,” he recalled. “Our relationship took on a sibling dynamic very quickly; I certainly felt like an older brother (even though I was younger), constantly putting my arm around her, as if trying to protect her from the world.
“I wish I’d been able to protect her more.”
Shortly after her death, “Wildfire: The Legend of the Cherokee Ghost Horse” director Eric Parkinson told The Post how the “Six Days, Seven Nights” star did her own stunts “like a champ” on the set of the film.
“I said, ‘Anne, your agent told us you weren’t an experienced rider!’ Anne responded: ‘I’m not … but my character is a champ,’” he said about the actress climbing atop a horse.
Heche crashed her car into a Los Angeles building on Aug. 5 She reportedly had cocaine in her system at the time of the incident, according to prior reports, and was declared brain-dead on Aug. 12.
The 53-year-old actress died due to inhalation of smoke and thermal injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner. Heche did not leave a will.
Heche’s memoir, “Call Me Anne,” is set to be released in January.
