Class fucking act right there. Gutman is a great guy.
Agreed…one of the few not afraid to go to goal and not pass it to brooks every damn time
Maybe he and Brooks should try playing defense
Lmao
Classy - at least he was trying tonight.
We we're already losing and looking listless, not his fault we lost.
The way the radio broadcast put it was that effected the margins of the result, but not the result itself. I think that fits.
I like Gutman. Shining star this year. If he reads this- hey we all got your back. Take your rest and see you next time. Get some
Agreed. He was a little off early on and got frustrated and angry about it. Happens to everyone once in a while. Shake it off Guuuuuuut, get some rest and come back like the hustle master you are. If you'd like to make it up to us, we accept goals as presents.
Can someone please explain to me what the penalty/red was for? Was at the game and saw no explanation anywhere
Watch the replay when you can. He pulled the shirt on the striker. Pretty clear on the replay, but still doesn’t explain why it took the ref 2 mins at the screen to decide.
It's a 3-parter. 1st, you have to determine that it was foul. The ref probably wanted to look at multiple different angles and speeds just to see how much impact the pull had. 2nd, determine if it's DOGSO. 3rd, determine if it was yellow or red.

Outside of the box, yes. Within the penalty area it's a yellow + penalty. This is meant to not doubly punish a team for an honest foul. In Gutman's case he was sent off for DOGSO + unsportsmanlike conduct (professional foul). Had he clanged into him with a hard foul and made an attempt to play the ball he wouldn't have been sent off.
It's the fact that he didn't make an effort at the ball that got him a red.
They changed it a few years ago. A legitimate attempt to play the ball that doesn’t work out and you commit a foul for a penalty is now a yellow card even if the 4 D’s of DOGSO (Direction of play, Distance from goal, attacker’s Distance from the ball, presence of other Defenders) are there.
I was at the game too so didn’t see it myself, but my friends at home said it was for clearly pulling a kit in front of goal instead of going for the ball. You know, kinda what Charlotte was doing the entirety of the first half.
Poor consistency. Pretty sure the ref phoned it in to the sides and VAR
Gutman pulled the back of the jersey right before the attacker was about to have an open shot from the top of the 6 yard box. Was definitely a foul. Was also DOGSO, and since Gutman wasn't making an attempt to play the ball, it resulted in a red instead of a yellow.
I thought fifa changed these rules so as to not award a penalty and a red? It's too harsh. But fuck atl utd pro hates us.
No, you just don't understand the rules.
You don't get a red + penalty if you attempt to play the ball. Gutman didn't attempt to play the ball, so red + penalty is the correct call.
I was at the game, too, and never realized we were a player down. When did Gutman get the red? Second half?
Right before the penalty.
Good guy - I wish they would replay what is on the VR screen at the stadium. It is clearly a penalty and red card if you watch.

Definitely didn't help, but this team has no direction and that is on the manager.
Gutman is a workhorse. Good player and clearly a classy person but he's being asked to do too much. Be a major part of the attack and also defend. He's making way too many mistakes- so many of our goals have been conceded by attackers getting past him on the right. Also, he's always runnig to get back into position from way up so just easy for wingers to get past him. No way Yedlin in the Miami game should have got past him.
“Please do not blame the coaches or the front office particularly gonzo or Boca for tonight’s loss. I promise that I am not being held hostage and have no been brain washed. But whatever you do, please never blame the coaches.” - Gutman
This is class, but he doesn’t need to fall on his sword when there were plenty of other reasons we lost, again.
No biggie Gut. Learn and move on. At least your actively trying. Not 100% your fault if your the only person on the back line trying to defend this and your also out front trying to score.
