Who We Are
Amherst Regional Middle School is a 7th and 8th-grade school serving students from the towns of Amherst, Pelham, Leverett, and Shutesbury. We are a culturally rich, linguistically diverse, socially responsible community. Our school has approximately 440 students, organized into four different teams. Our school is grounded in middle school philosophy which emphasizes the unique needs and learning opportunities of early adolescents to approach our education with open hearts, open minds, and open ARMS.

Our Interim Superintendent Dr. Douglas Slaughter
Doug Slaughter has worked in the Amherst, Pelham and the Amherst-Pelham Regional School districts since 2007, first as Assistant Director and Data Analyst for the Information Systems department. In 2020, Dr. Slaughter was appointed as Director of Finance for the three districts. He began serving the Districts as Interim Superintendent in September 2023.
Dr. Slaughter holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Missouri and a doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts. He holds multiple licenses from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, including Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent and School Business Administrator.
Dr. Slaughter lives in Amherst with his family.
