I don't think there's a more important American photographer in the 20th century than Lewis Hine and he deserves more than an hour. But I'll take the hour. Could've watched this for 2 more. I really love what Nina Rosenblum did here to canonize the photographer. It's a remarkable story of someone who truly worked for the sake of others. He was the definition of integrity. More contemporary photographers would be wise to learn from the genius, who died broke and with his heart intact.
One of the most important and socially conscious photographers of our lifetime. His photos were an important factor in the changing of child labor laws. Hine also photographed many of the Western and Eastern European Immigrants who came through Ellis Island in the early years of the 20th century. His photographs helped to humanize them as people searching for a better life at a time when most Americans feared them as criminals and lowlifes (sound familiar?).
