Overall, I had a lot of great opportunities because I attended AHS. They have classes that set me up for my degree, and prepared me academically for college.
My experience with Alton High has was truly one wild ride. However, I have enjoyed most of my time at Alton High. Although if I had to chose one thing to change would have to be the aspect of favoritism. Being a rather quiet student I watched a lot of teachers selecting certain students in each class that they would always seem to pay more attention to and some times help those selected students when they were having troubles more than the students who were not selected. I was fortunate enough to have two teachers that talked to me like I was one of the "selected favorites." Now for me being a "selected favorite" for those two teachers really did not change much for me. For instance I believe that those two teachers were actually harder on me when it came to school work, because they truly cared for me and wanted to succeed. Although the school had its flaws it was an amazing experience filled with many opportunities that were presented to me that I know aren't always available.
While band and choir programs are both good, the overall culture of the school is awful. You don’t receive any help for college from the teachers and counselors. I personally loved both of my biology teachers (Laaker and Belcher). They both did amazing jobs. I can’t say the food is good or I really feel safe, but it’s high school that’s expected.
