Overall, I had a lot of great opportunities because I attended AHS. They have classes that set me up for my degree, and prepared me academically for college.
While band and choir programs are both good, the overall culture of the school is awful. You don’t receive any help for college from the teachers and counselors. I personally loved both of my biology teachers (Laaker and Belcher). They both did amazing jobs. I can’t say the food is good or I really feel safe, but it’s high school that’s expected.
My experience with Alton High has was truly one wild ride. However, I have enjoyed most of my time at Alton High. Although if I had to chose one thing to change would have to be the aspect of favoritism. Being a rather quiet student I watched a lot of teachers selecting certain students in each class that they would always seem to pay more attention to and some times help those selected students when they were having troubles more than the students who were not selected. I was fortunate enough to have two teachers that talked to me like I was one of the "selected favorites." Now for me being a "selected favorite" for those two teachers really did not change much for me. For instance I believe that those two teachers were actually harder on me when it came to school work, because they truly cared for me and wanted to succeed. Although the school had its flaws it was an amazing experience filled with many opportunities that were presented to me that I know aren't always available.
There is often a sense of teachers not caring about students. I myself had overheard teachers saying that the students opinions do not matter. For the most part when a teacher is asked a question they will contradict your question and move on without an answer.
So far, my high school experience has been pretty normal. You have your typical high school kids roaming the halls. We have a large variety of students and all kinds of ways to engage whether it be a club, marching band, theater, or a sport.
Alton is a big school with many different experiences. Academically if you're in honors classes they keep up the pace but if you are in non-honors the teachers are laid back and take their time. Each teacher is different so it isn't the same for every class. There are a lot of fights that happen and some of the teachers are more on the harsh side.
Well in my 4 years we had a crap ton of teachers fired and one arrested. If that doesnt sum up this high school nothing will
Although I enjoyed my time at Alton High District, I hope to see much improvement in the near future. I have had many great teachers and many not so great teachers. I hate to see so many teachers that I learned so much from leave to go to a better district.
I enjoyed the student council program at Alton High School. Aside from having an active supervisor, the program was student led which was a lot of fun. Students were heavily involved in the production of major school events.
Throughout my three years of attending AHS, it has been a wonderful journey. I have had great teachers help me throughout the way, and excellent administrators encourage me to keep going. The staff at AHS is probably one of the best things they have to offer.
its a great school. they offer several vocational and art classes. i have personally taken a bit of all the vocational classes and i loved them. The school lunch may not be the greatest but it ain't absolutely horrible. the staff is great. they know what they are doing. the vocational teachers are certified technicians with previous experience.
Alton High School is a facility better equip for producing lies than well-prepared students. The school is more worried about cradling a few select athletes and catering to the middle upper class than truly helping the low income students who struggle to succeed. Alton is full of bright promising students with low income backgrounds, they promise hope and help, yet, somehow it seems these students still never cross the graduation stage. Alton High School claims diversity and equal opportunity, yet they are a main antagonist in the rift that has impacted the school at its foundation.
Alton High School has a lot of resources to prepare students for college. They give students a lot of opportunities to earn college credit. They should change the grade point average system to make it more fair. Students who do not take certain elective classes that offer honors challenge can’t raise their class rank.
I wish that our teachers paid more attention to how smart the bad kids really are. Most of the teachers only care about getting through the day and teaching the material, instead of focusing one on one with the student to make sure they get their best education.
Alton High School is an interesting school. I feel ready for what might happen in the real world and I have met a lot of different people.
In AHS I believe there to be a good academic course but I want better food and some more dedicated teachers.
It is an overall good school, but more could be done to prepare the students for college. I find myself a bit underprepared for the whole process. The academics are overall good. The facilities need to be updated.
