Alta Celebrates First Back To Back 600+ Inch Seasons In 15 Years

On the heels of a record setting season, Alta has once again proved that it's one of North America's powder skiing capitals.

Alta Ski Area, Utah, has now seen two back-to-back seasons with more than 600 inches of snowfall.

It's the first time this has happened in 15 years.

Last winter at Alta, when a record-breaking 903 inches of snow fell, has become the stuff of legends.

This winter, though, didn't initially appear to be comparable, with a slower start and less snowfall out the gate. Then, in true Alta fashion, things turned around in a big way.

February, which saw enormous amounts of snow at the resort, was dubbed by Alta "Free Refills February." March, too, didn't disappoint.

"We started March just shy of 450 inches of season-to-date snowfall," Alta wrote on Instagram at the start of this month. "We end March closing in on 600 inches."

That 600-inch mark has officially been surpassed—at the time of writing this, Alta's season total is 612 inches.

The forecasted weather at the resort this week—blue skies and mild temperatures—is set to bring the return of springy conditions as the powder tap turns off.

Alta, which closes on April 21st, still has a few more weeks for a late-season storm to arrive, though, so don't hang up the powder skis quite yet.
