Irn Bru - A true British great
What a drink
I try to only have 1 maybe 2 a year, but when you have it, in the right setting or time its an absolute gem.
Hungover, about to walk the dog around the woods to think of ways that i can get last nights referees weekend ruined, I popped into the corner shop slowly meandering up to the large refrigerated cabinet full of life's boring usual suspects
Is today a Fanta day?
Where the f*** is Lilt?
I can't believe that anybody drinks Super Malt and enjoys it?
Who the f*** in the world even buys a Nurishment?
Then it winked at me in its orange sugary tartan glow and told me today is the day we meet again, it was time for another short fling with the Bru each as memorable as the last, I sipped on it whilst picking up the dogs 3rd **** in a short space of time, trying to work out what the f*** they put in this as my tongue is tingling and headache begins to ware away, luzzing the empty bottle into the nearest bush knowing that nobody will ever know its an Englishman littering and if anybody hears a Scottish accent and sees the strewn bottle they shall be to blame, see you in a while you cheeky Scottish carbonated slag.
On a side note, the bellend that decided to attach the lids to the bottles is a busy prize prick.

Firstly, agree with the lid comment, drives me mad.
First thing I did when we arrived at Edinburgh Castle was to buy a bottle, (its made from girders they tell me).
Looks like a bottle of pee from someone who has a water infection, but tastes of nectar.
Irn Bru brings pleasure

Love the stuff, and if I ever pop into the local 'British Market' shop I have to buy a can or two.
But then I am semi-jock so it's in the genes

From Wiki
The first Iron Brew drink was produced by the Maas & Waldstein chemicals company of New York in 1889 under the name IRONBREW.[14] The drink was popular across North America and was widely copied. A similar beverage was launched in 1898 by London essence firm Stevenson & Howell that supplied soft drinks manufacturers in the UK and colonies. Many local bottlers around the UK began selling their own version of the beverage

It is great isn't it?
Love The Bru, likely the best hangover drink known to man, but good on a normal lunchtime also.
Up with there with Tayto Cheese & Onion as one of the best regional delicacies in our United Kingdom.
Saw some 'funky' variants last time I was in Scotland, a blueberry crush and a tropical Lilt-like one....which hit the spot.

Was Irn Bru much different to Tizer? I can’t remember what Tizer tasted like. An Irish bloke I used to work with once referred to this stuff as “red lemonade”, so I wonder if they’re kinda like the Coke/Pepsi of the red lemonade market?

Never been the same since they got rid of about 6 grams of sugar, fortunately you can get the 1901 bottles now which are the original recipe. For a hangover, I tend to take the lid off a bottle and leave it in the fridge overnight, tends to do the trick.

Fully agreed, what an unbelievable drink.
Also handy that 'Irn-Bru Xtra', i.e. sugar-free one, tastes virtually identical imo to the normal version. Love the stuff.

Both drinks are made Barrs so there wouldn't be any rivalry between Irn Bru and Tizer.dasnutnock3 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 3:02 pm Technically, “gerchduzz”.

I love it best hangover cure known to mankind.
As for Nutriment, my elderly father drinks it to give him the protien he doesn't get from his diet -at his age he doesn't eat a lot (or very well tbvh.) When I lived in London it was also a popular drink amongst the afro-carrabean cultures there.

Irn Bru. Tizer. Vimto. Lucozade.
Four drinks I tried in my formative years and my resounding memory is a feeling of "I have no idea what this tastes like ".

Nah, that's rootbeer, that they used to sell in Mcdonalds, i wanted to like it, but it was weird
Re: Irn Bru - A true British great
Completely off topic but growing up I was always told that the English would always label great Scottish people or great Scottish inventions as British, but anything Scottish that was completely pish or abhorrent would retain their true Scottishness.
As a proud Sweaty, I'd say this is true. I'd also say we have a massive chip on our shoulders along with an inferiority complex about the English.
