Alexandre Lacazette netted a hat-trick to send Lyon into the Coupe de France Last 16 and then stated the win would help boost the seven-time French champions' faltering Ligue 1 Uber Eats challenge.

Lacazette scored all three goals as OL saw off Chambery in Saturday's Round of 32 tie, which was a welcome distraction from their league form. Laurent Blanc's team lie in ninth place, 17 points off the top three and a potential return to the UEFA Champions League next season after a run of just one league win in their last six matches.

But Lacazette, who returned to Lyon following a five-year spell at Arsenal, believes a Coupe de France bounce may just be what Lyon's league form requires.

"It was the easiest brace I've ever scored, and then Bradley did fantastically, but it does us good," said the 31-year-old former France international forward, who finished off two Tetê passes before claiming his third following great work from Bradley Barcola.

"We have to be clinical in both boxes, and that's lacking for now. This win will do us good for the game with Ajaccio next week, it'll help us to get our confidence back."

Lacazette has scored 11 times in the league this season, but Blanc wants more from his star man

"If you put balls into the box, he's happy, we know he'll score goals," said the former France and Paris Saint-Germain boss. "But I would like more situations like that. He can do everything: drop off, get in the box, and could even do more running in behind."
