Alexander Hamilton Senior High School Reviews
Rating 3.64 out of 5 946 reviews
The best experience from Hamilton High School is the extracurriculars. There are several clubs for the students to join, plenty of athletic opportunities, and staff who provide additional support and resources for education and college readiness. Although the opportunities for students are engaging, the ambient and school infrastructure is one of the down parts of my experience. The school often only has two bathrooms open at a time, despite the size of the school. This has proven itself inconvenient, as lines become long, and as a result, have affected how much time one has in class.
In the four years in which I have been a student here, I found that I could take nearly any class I had an affinity for, be it a music class, business class, or ethnic history class, regardless of my magnet. For instance, the advanced music technology course I took this year was initially restricted to students of the AMPA magnet, but my counselor was able to get me in, showing the dedication staff have for making sure students can study what they'd like. My AP teachers this year have also been excellent, helping me to use my skills for and appreciation of a subject to be proficient in it without it feeling like too tall of a task, which have helped me juggle APES, AP Human Geography, and AP Computer Science A. I would like to see more uniformity among magnets in the future, as some magnets receive notably more funding than others; additionally, one such magnet has ~50 students, while SAS in comparison, boasts 2500. Overall, life at Hamilton's SAS magnet has been very rewarding.
While there is a diverse student body, it is predominantly white students. However, this school truly prepares students for college.
