Alex Greenwood is a professional football who plays for Manchester City in the FA Women's Super League and the England Lionesses national team. Established herself as one of the best centre backs in Europe, she can also play as a left back and is known for being a set-piece specialist.

Born and raised in Liverpool, Alex started her career at Everton and made her professional debut in 2010. She had a break-though season a year later, winning the prestigious FA Young Player of the Year for the 2011-12 campaign, aged just 18.

She later enjoyed spells at Notts County and Liverpool, where she was named the WSL player of the year during the 2015-16 season, before moving to Manchester United in 2018 where she enjoyed a stellar season with the Red Devils. Alex captained the team as they gained promotion to the Women's Super League in their debut season and scored five goals in the process.

Her brilliant form was capturing the attention of clubs across Europe and she joined Lyon a season later. Her maiden season in France brought success as she helped them secure the Trophee des Championnes, Coupe De France, domestic league title and UEFA Women’s Champions League.

She moved to Manchester City during the 2020-21 season and won her first trophy a matter of months later beating Chelsea at the FA Cup at Wembley. She has enjoyed a rich vein of form since returning to the WSL and added a Continental Cup win in 2022 to her honours list.

On the international front, Alex captained England at youth level and went on to make her full debut for the three lions in 2014 against Italy, scoring her first international goal later that year in a win against Montenegro.

Aged just 22, Greenwood was the youngest member of England’s squad at the 2015 World Cup, where she started in the third-place play-off win over Germany which secured the bronze medal.

She also was a key member of the squad that helped England reach the semi-finals of Euro 2017 and featured in four of England’s 2019 World Cup qualifiers. Boasting more than 50 caps for the national team, the centre-back has cemented her place in the setup.
