Wayne Rooney has been left impressed by Erik ten Hag after visiting Manchester United’s training ground on numerous occasions in the last month and even sees some of Sir Alex Ferguson in the Dutchman.

The DC United boss has been picking Ten Hag’s brain during the MLS off-season, as well as visiting Carrington to watch his sons in United’s academy.

Rooney has eyes on managing United one day and he recently admitted he got into management with a view to taking charge at Old Trafford.

But Ten Hag is the man in charge at this moment in time and he’s made a strong start to life at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Dutchman’s impressed the squad with his man-management style and his dealing of Cristiano Ronaldo.

And Rooney was invited to meet with Ten Hag and his staff during a recent visit to the training ground and was left ‘massively impressed’ with the former Ajax boss.

Rooney is said to see some of Ferguson in the way that Ten Hag operates, while his steely determination is similar to that of his former boss.

Rooney turned down the chance of interviewing at Everton last year but he recently admitted he would love to return to Goodison Park or Old Trafford.

‘The whole reason in me going into management is Manchester United. I got offered the job interview for the Everton job,’ said Rooney.

‘I want to be Manchester United manager. I know I am not ready now but I have to plan everything I do to make sure one day it will happen.’
