      Critics Consensus

Alaska Daily awkwardly straddles the sensibilities of network TV and edgier streaming fare, but the core message about the importance of local journalism is fit to print.

Shireen A I absolutely loved this show! I'm so disappointed that it was cancelled Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/19/23 Full Review Clifton J H I am so Effing Pissed they canceled this important series. This was a hard so to do because it is as Alaskan it can get. This Show should of been renewed for one more season. ABC said NO, Come on CBS, NBC, FOX, PARAMOUNT+, A&E, REELZ, NETFLIX, PRIME and many others, please pick this Show up. It is so worth it. The message of this show is so important to broadcast out to the world... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/11/23 Full Review Niki M This was annoyingly watchable, despite hitting every cable TV cliche squarely on the nose. The plotlines depend far too heavily on implausible co-incidences, anyone in journalism will find the investigative aspect hilarious, Hillary Swank is a fabulous actress and owns every scene, but her character just does not ring true. The show straddles an uncomfortable line between reality and fantasy - swerving wildly and erratically between drama and fairy-tale. It's like the show's creator received a big box of storylines and decided to cram in every single one. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/08/23 Full Review Catarina V I think the show could have done a lot to help Alaska and its people, unfortunately it let wokeism ruin whatever gains it made. I was hopeful for a second season, to redeem themselves and to shine a spotlight on real life in Alaska. Maybe next time? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/08/23 Full Review Carolyn G Loved the first season and I'm so disappointed to learn the show has been canceled. Great acting and such an important story. Who's making these decisions? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/19/23 Full Review Sharon P I thought this was a great show, and being from Alaska, I know that many Alaska Native women do go missing so this show actually was bringing attention to an overlooked issue and I was sorry to see that it had been canceled already. It should've been given more of a chance! The characters were all very likable and down to earth while solving a major real life issue, and there should be more shows like this. Michael Starr New York Post A too- earnest, tropey drama that’s well-intentioned but heavy-handed in checking all the requisite contextual boxes. Oct 26, 2022 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times Swank and the supporting players are terrific together. Rated: 3/4 Oct 7, 2022 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times Like “The West Wing,” another product of network television, it is a tract in the form of a drama, making the case for the dedicated maintenance of a pillar of democratic society. I can’t argue with that. Oct 6, 2022 Full Review Chris Wasser Irish Independent Lower your expectations, and you’ll get on just fine with this wonky yet watchable melodrama. Feb 24, 2023 Full Review Alberto Carlos Espinof A rare bird with ambitions worthy of a streaming or basic cable series but with the limitations of a network. This includes a tendency to dole out masticated information and present conflicts that are relatively light and shallow. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Feb 8, 2023 Full Review Susan Granger SSG Syndicate Casting humorless, abrasive, even pugnacious Hilary Swank as a humorless, abrasive, pugnacious journalist works BUT taking a 3-month hiatus between episodes 6 and 7 may dissipate whatever tension and interest it Tom McCarthy's series originally provoked- Rated: 6/10 Nov 20, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
