Actor, Songwriter, Talk Show Host, Game Show Host. Born Alan Willis Jeffery (last name later changed to Thicke), he was best known for playing Jason Seaver, the dad on the 1980s ABC sitcom "Growing Pains". He attended Western Ontario University and got his start in show business, hosting game shows and guest hosting "The Alan Hamel Show" in the late 1970s in Canada. He was then hired by producer Norman Lear to produce and write for the program "Fernwood 2-Night". He would go on to having his own talk show both in Canada "The Alan Thicke Show" and in the United States "Thicke of the Night". He also had a successful career composing television show theme songs for such shows as "Diff'rent Strokes" and "The Facts of Life". In 1985 he debuted in the role of Jason Seaver on the series "Growing Pains" that would make him well known to all television viewers. The show lasted for seven years until 1992 and two television movies "The Growing Pains Movie" (2000) and "Growing Pains: Return of the Seavers" (2004) followed. He continued to make many television appearances after "Growing Pains", on various series and shows. He was inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame in 2013. He passed away due to a ruptured aorta while playing ice hockey with his son Carter.
