Alan Shearer praises Arnaut Danjuma’s ‘interesting’ movement in Tottenham debut

Alan Shearer has praised Arnaut Danjuma after the Tottenham Hotspur attacker enjoyed a strong debut against Preston North End.

Tottenham headed up to Lancashire to take on PNE in what looked like a potential banana skin for Antonio Conte’s side.

The Championship side were very tough to break down in the first half and Tottenham went into the break frustrated at 0-0.

Spurs were better in the second half though as Son Heung-min rattled home a superb strike before a nice turn and finish from the South Korean made it 2-0.

There was still time for new signing Danjuma to come off the bench and get on the scoresheet for a dream debut.

Danjuma’s finish maybe wasn’t quite as clean as he would have liked, but the Dutchman scuffed in number three to give Tottenham a 3-0 win.

The hope is that Danjuma can become a real contributor for Tottenham in the second half of the season.

The Dutchman has arrived on loan from Villarreal after Tottenham hijacked Everton’s loan deal for the winger.

Danjuma can offer competition for Son Heung-min down Tottenham’s left flank as well as covering for Harry Kane up top.

This seems like a pretty sensible move for Tottenham and if Danjuma impresses, a permanent move could be engineered this summer.

One game, one goal is a pretty good start for Danjuma and he has earned praise from a man who knows a thing or two about finding the net.

Pundit Alan Shearer watched Danjuma find the net against PNE and told BBC Sport that he felt Danjuma had made some ‘interesting’ runs when he came on as a substitute.

Shearer praised Danjuma for a ‘wonderful start’ to his Tottenham career having showed impressive movement, whilst suggesting that the new signing won’t care about his scruffy finish; a goal is a goal, after all.

“Wonderful start for Danjuma. Started really well. Made a few interesting and good runs then gets his reward with the goal,” said Danjuma. “Spurs worked it well again with the ball. Just about getting the connection. Not the best strike but he won’t care because he got it in the corner,” he added.
