      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Aladdin retells its classic source material's story with sufficient spectacle and skill, even if it never approaches the dazzling splendor of the animated original.

      Audience Consensus

It's hard to beat the original Aladdin, but this new version's killer cast, terrific soundtrack, and impressive effects add up to a remake that's plenty entertaining in its own right.

Cori The best Disney live action remake. Guy Ritchie really nailed this movie. Some of the acting could have been a little bit better. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/31/22 Full Review Sandra One of the best live action remakes I've ever seen Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/30/22 Full Review Jonathan F Funny, fast-paced, and magical. Does justice to the cartoon version. The actors do a great job keeping the movie lighthearted while still having moral underpinnings, as would be expected from a Disney film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/22 Full Review Michael loved the movie and songs Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/03/21 Full Review Holly S Loved it better than the animated film. Will Smith was hilarious. Go see this with your family-you won't be disappointed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/20 Full Review Audience Member Very much exceeded my expectations. Will Smith and Naomi Scott were fantastic — damn can she sing. I actually really liked Mena Massoud as the titular character. The songs, which are tough to top, still did it for me. But a movie like Aladdin needs a good villain and this is where it fell short. Jafar wasn't nearly as menacing or imposing as he was in the original — which may have been impossible given the movie is live-action. Overall, a very fun movie worth experiencing in theaters. Christy Lemire FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It's fine... A very straightforward, big spectacle musical. Sep 30, 2019 Full Review Esther Zuckerman Thrillist It's bizarre in a way that's sometimes funny-bad and sometimes just bad-bad. Jun 27, 2019 Full Review Wenlei Ma News.com.au Everything about Aladdin is big, and yet feels small at the same time. Its lavish production design and costuming also has the effect of looking more like a stage production than an epic movie. Rated: 2.5/5 Jun 21, 2019 Full Review Serena Seghedoni Loud and Clear Reviews The original Aladdin had many flaws, but it was [...] full of heart. And, while Guy Ritchie's live action movie might be a better film in terms of special effects, dance routines and perhaps even structure, "heart" is exactly what it doesn't have. Rated: 2.5/5 Nov 2, 2023 Full Review Manuel São Bento MSB Reviews Guy Ritchie proves he’s a fantastic director, by delivering some beautiful one-take sequences, and exceptionally fun, well-choreographed musical numbers. Technically, the production and set design are astounding. Rated: B+ Jul 24, 2023 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) It plays like the most expensive Disney Channel Original Movie of all time; it’s not as cinematic as it is ready to stream.
