An Easter Bloom

An Easter Bloom was a pretty good film. I do like Aimee Teegarden. She is normally the epitome of cheerfulness in her movies. That smile is infectious. Ben Hollingsworth was pretty good in his role despite that accent. It came and went. The story utilized the main themes of Easter quite well in three of the stories within the movie; the resurrection of the flower farm as well as pointing Amanda to a new direction in her life after her father's death, the, eh, blossoming of love between Amanda and Derrick as well as the forgiveness that was achieved in the reemerging friendship between Constance and Lori. That being said, the farm was saved but they will change it to a wedding venue. The last scene was a little odd to me. I thought the place they mentioned would have been a bit further out.Otherwise they would have to get rid of the flowers. Unless that's what they planned to do but a wedding venue would need flowers...

There were a few odd things like age in a Hallmark movie. Even our star is about 10 years older than the character she was playing. Also her mother was playing a character who was probably 15, 20 years younger than she was. I loved how they just put white hair on the father too. White beard too. But this is minor and doesn't detract from the overall story and message of the film. The romance was low key but I liked the kiss at the end. She took the initiative. Good for her. Eva Tavares was quite good as Effie in this film. She was right on key and tone as the "best friend/co-worker" of the female lead. Perfect for that role. I can't comment on the flowers except to say they looked lovely. A lot of people were very nice to each other in the film. I thought at first the whole church was going to give money to help Amanda save her farm. That was one thing they didn't do. She also could have sold that nice set of copper pots she had in her kitchen. Luckily, it didn't come to that.

So overall an enjoyable film. It was charming and not charmless. Some things could have been better but it was definitely on point with the whole Easter theme. The romance was not in your face as in some movies. It was cozy. Two people learning to enjoy each other in a slow manner. I was surprised not to see the Dayspring imprint at the beginning of the film. I know now to look for that for such movies and what to expect when it comes to the film that will follow.
