Oscar winners 2020: Complete list with nominees

“Parasite” was the big winner at the 92nd annual Academy Awards on Sunday, landing Best Picture honors for “speechless” producer Kwak Sin-ae and filmmaker Bong Joon Ho, who also took home the statue for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film. It was the first time a non-English-language movie won Best Picture.

In the individual acting categories, Renée Zellweger won Best Actress for “Judy” — sweeping the awards season after also garnering a Golden Globe, a SAG award and a BAFTA for her performance — and Joaquin Phoenix landed Best Actor for “Joker.”

Like the 2020 SAG Awards in January, the 2020 Oscars were host-free this year. The 2019 Oscars also aired without an emcee after Kevin Hart stepped down from the gig following criticism of homophobic tweets in his past. Meanwhile, Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais has taken to Twitter to share his thoughts on the 2020 ceremony.

Janelle Monáe — with a little help from red-carpet showman Billy Porter — opened the ceremony with an original number that called out snubbed talent and productions like Eddie Murphy and his comeback film “Dolemite Is My Name.” And later in the show, rapper Eminem dropped a surprise performance of his song “Lose Yourself” from the 2002 movie “8 Mile.”

On a more somber note, during the in memoriam segment, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recognized the late Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant, who along with his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and seven others died in a helicopter crash in California on Jan. 26. Bryant, 41, won the 2018 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for “Dear Basketball,” which focuses on “the inspiring story of one little boy living out his basketball dream.” Against a starry backdrop and accompanied by piano, singer Billie Eilish performed the Beatles’ “Yesterday” to recognize Bryant and others lost since the 2019 Oscars, including Kirk Douglas, who died at age 103 on Wednesday. However, the commemoration left out “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum Luke Perry, who died in March 2019, and Cameron Boyce, who died last summer.

The Academy Awards ceremony aired live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, on ABC.
