Moussa Diaby not related to Abou as Arsenal make contact to sign £88m man

Is Moussa Diaby related to Abou Diaby? Many Arsenal fans have been asking on Google after the Gunners made contact with Bayer Leverkusen.

Mikel Arteta is clearly keen to move on swiftly from the Mykhaylo Mudryk debacle, which saw the Ukraine international surprisingly join Chelsea instead of jetting off to the Emirates Stadium.

According to Sky Sports, the north Londoners are holding talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a deal for the France international as an alternative to Mudryk, although he has a €100m (£88m) price tag.

So, is Moussa Diaby related to Abou Diaby? Let’s take a look…

Unfortunately for those Arsenal fans who hoped that Abou could convince Moussa about a move to the Emirates Stadium, the pair are not known to be related in any way.

The pair were both born in Paris – albeit 13 years apart – although that is merely a coincidence, it seems.

Moussa Diaby is of Malian descent, whereas Abou Diaby has Ivorian heritage, so despite sharing the same surname and being born in Paris, they come from differing family backgrounds.

Is Moussa Diaby left footed?

A number of Arsenal fans have also asked this question on Google, according to the data.

The Bayer Leverkusen No.19 is in fact left footed, and makes a real impact for Bayer Leverkusen cutting inside from the right wing on his stronger foot.

Interestingly, the France international has even been compared to Arjen Robben for that exact reason, as seen on the Bundesliga’s official website.

So far this season, the 23-year-old has scored eight goals while also providing four assists in 22 appearances.

In our view, it seems strange that Arteta has identified him as an alternative to Mudryk, as the Ukrainian wonderkid is right footed and plays on the left flank, so he would have offered a different profile to that of Diaby.

Nevertheless, the Frenchman is a superb forward – if Arsenal get their hands on him, it would be a great signing.
