He was the next Patrick Vieira says Arsenal legend Cesc Fabregas

Arsenal

Theo Walcott and Cesc Fabregas, both former Arsenal players, agree on their assessment of Abou Diaby. They both feel it’s a ‘shame’ that Diaby didn’t reach his full potential.

Arsenal signed Diaby for only £2 million in 2009. He showed moments of great skill. But injuries held him back. Many Arsenal fans remember Diaby as a player with unfulfilled promise. Injuries stopped him from becoming the star many thought he would be.

This includes Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere, who also struggled with injuries.Walcott recently used just one word, ‘shame,’ to describe Diaby’s career when asked by Goal.

This echoes what Fabregas said about Diaby last month. Diaby’s talent is not forgotten, especially by those who played alongside him. They remember his potential and feel it’s unfortunate he couldn’t overcome his physical setbacks to achieve greatness.

Cesc Fabregas on Abou Diaby

Elaborating more on Diaby for the Planet Premier League podcast, Fabregas spoke at length about the talent Diaby had

.“What was said about Jack Wilshere, his eagerness and keenness to take people on and invite tackles brought on those injuries. I agree and the same can be said of Abou Diaby. A superb talent, what a player, he was the next Patrick Vieira, but he carried the ball a lot, and I’m not saying it’s his fault, because we all have our strengths.

I couldn’t do what Jack did, if I was more explosive or faster I would’ve been a different player, but we all need to play to our strengths,”

Fabregas said Arsenal, then, appear to have missed out on seeing a major talent in Abou Diaby.Indeed, the player himself must be gutted at how things turned out. Diaby is very much a case of what if.

Arsenal had many player in that Era. They didn’t reached their potentials.
