It's more of the same, making the sequel more outrageous – for the better. Tim Matheson is an excellent heel and gives the characters more of a contrasting character to highlight their silliness and naiveté to the rest of the world. But despite changing directors, the movie doesn't get a net gain because it's too redundant, although purposely so. It also didn't help that the director, Arlene Sanford, pissed off Mama Brady by not allowing the original cast members to return with cameo roles.

This movie is excessively mean spirited. (Even cast member Rosie O'Donnell admitted as much on her daytime talkshow). In one scene, at the beginning in the bathroom, Bobby Brady rattles off a bunch of Jan's physical flaws to her, right to her face; who then bursts into tears and runs of. In another scene Roy, the villain, kidnaps Carol, at which point Marcia shouts "No! Not Mom! Take Jan!" Marcia shoves her forward into the crazed gunman as the rest of the kids shout "Yeah take Jan!....". Etc. There are also numerous other scenes where Jan is set up as the butt of a cruel joke. Not very nice!! There is also a gross subplot which has Greg and Marcia flirting with eachother and (almost) initiating a lurid encounter between them. An interviewer confronted director Arlene Sanford about the "incest subplot" between Marcia and Greg. The director responded, "Oh it's totally innocent! Everybody's hormones go nuts at that age! It means nothing!". Someone should tell Sanford that step-siblings are for all intents and purposes real brothers and sisters. Them flirting with each other and initiating romantic rendezvouses with eachother is not nothing; it's inappropriate. All this distasteful stuff ruins the movie. That's in spite of couple nice musical numbers and funny moments. Thumbs Down!!

When I was real young I would jokingly refer to this as the worst movie I had ever seen, but it is clear now there was quite a bit of material that would have went right over my head at that age. The comedy is actually pretty raunchy at times but cleverly disguised with innuendos and entendres that, when viewed in the context of the wholesome Brady family image, adds another level of humor. Without this style of comedy this movie would rate way lower for me, as you'd simply be left with a hollow and uninteresting plot, much like my image of the original Brady Brunch episodes.
