The fact that absolutely no one is freaking out about a man being pregnant and are instead congratulating him is exactly why this movie is great. It never takes itself seriously and instead is 91 minutes of pure joy. Jacques Demy you are so wonderful.
God what a film!! I’m just awestruck by this thing— it’s almost as if Jacques Demy pulled a David DeCoteau and just directed this on autopilot... but it’s way too good for that.
I think the discrepancy between the French and English titles is pretty funny— it goes from being The Most Important Event Since Man Walked on the Moon to just A Slightly Pregnant Man. Isn’t that kinda weird? The French make a bigger deal about it than the “eh, he’s a little pregnant I guess” Americans, which is completely out of line with what the attitude of the film itself.
