Esther and her sister Jennifer have just taken a remote country cottage. But there is strange gossip about the previous occupants.
David MacDonald’s British comedy, based on Kenneth Horne’s play, in which a British cop (Alan White) asks two spinster sisters (Phyllis Calvert and Gillian Owen) about a body.
The story concerns Esther (Phyllis Calvert) and her sister Jennifer (Gillian Owen) who have just taken an isolated country cottage. But there is bizarre gossip about the former occupants.
Phyllis Calvert and Gillian Owen both give good performances in their respective parts as the two sisters involved, while Alan White is decent as Detective Sergeant Bullock.
Also giving fine performances are Thorley Walters as Smith, Richard Leech as George, Constance Fraser as Mrs. Small and Shelia Shand Gibbs as Betty.
The direction from MacDonald is good because he allows a pleasant atmosphere…
Two sisters move into their new home in the country and become entangled with the previous owner, who may or may not have murdered his wife. Short and sweet, with an enjoyable Alfred Hitchcock Presents-esque feel.
