I'm putting together an x-files sounding playlist, any suggestions would be welcome
rather than it being songs that appear in x-files, I'm trying to find songs that fit the vibe and themes of the show. with a mix of modern and older songs
feel free to suggest any songs, as I'm trying to hit around 100 songs
My fav “deep cuts” from the show include:
Unmarked Helicopters - Soul Coughing
Hey Man, Nice Shot - Filter
Twilight Time - The Platters
Ring the Bells - James
Rainy Days and Mondays - The Carpenters
Live Fast, Diarrhea - The Vandals
Funny How Time Slips Away - Al Green
And not from the show, but is explicitly about TXF:
The Truth is Out There - Sonata Arctica
For the general vibe just listen to some Radiohead.
I've added all those, thanks!
I have a whole playlist of my own, mostly of the two big compilation albums and music from episodes. Let me know if you need more inspiration. Or dig out copies of Songs in the Key of X or the ‘music inspired by’ Fight the Future album.
For the general vibe just listen to some Radiohead.
♪for a minute there, I lost myself, I lost mysellllf♫
(tell me the sound accompanying that line doesn't sound kinda Spacecrafty)
Edwin Collins-A Girl Like You
Nick Cave-Red Right Hand
Filter-Hey Man Nice Shot
Catatonia-Mulder And Scully
Garbage- #1Crush
Marcy Playground-Sex And Candy
Eels-Novocaine For The Soul
Primitive Radio Gods-Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth
I haven't heard of some of these, but the one's i have heard of fit perfectly. So i'll trust your judgement and add them all :) maybe i'll find some new favourites
I'd like to see the playlist when you're done
here's a link for it in it's current state: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7FJnj0IFjWNX13JyYZ6U9I?si=7ef4a57039c44fbb
i might even try and update it regularly to keep it fresh
Great songs on here!!
Fire : Talking Heads - Burning Down the House. 3 : Cult of Helix - Blood. Dreamland I & II : Madison Avenue - Don’t Call Me Baby. Duane Barry : Beacon - Don’t Go Looking. Revelations : George Michael - Faith. Drive : Tracy Chapman - Fast Car. Goldberg Variation : Jungle - Happy Man. Milagro : Nirvana - Heart Shaped Box.
thanks! i'll add these now
Frenzy - Screamin' Jay Hawkins (from "Humbug") It was included in the "Songs in the Key of X" soundtrack, so I dunno if you want to include songs that were on earlier XF soundtracks--if you haven't checked out "Songs in the Key of X," you should, it's a good album.
Ring the Bells - James (from "DPO")
Wonderful, Wonderful - Johnny Mathis (from "Home")
Ring of Fire - Johnny Cash/Social Distortion ("Jose Chung's From Outer Space" - Darin Morgan's script specified both versions of this song should be used in a transition from one scene to the next)
Lullaby - The Cure (The Cure had a song on The X Files movie soundtrack, "More Than This," which is a cool song, but "Lullaby" has more of a spooky vibe)
Head Like A Hole - Nine Inch Nails (was never in the show, but Trent Reznor was a fan, and a lot of their stuff fits in with the X Files vibe)
Foo Fighters - Dave Grohl had a cameo in an episode, and the band is named after UFOs.
UFO - Sneaky Sound System
"Monster Mash" - Bobby "Boris" Pickett. (Just because.)
Oh, and the Theme From 'Shaft,' because Mulder wakes up singing it in Bad Blood, heh heh.
haha these are great suggestions, i've even included shaft because we might as well have fun with it
You should include everything off songs in the Key of X. It's perfect.

Kind of you to link everything too!!
Cher - Walking in Memphis
Also Cher - Gypsies, tramps and thieves
essential in any x files playlist
Babylon Zoo - Spaceman
Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark
Tom Yorke - Suspirium
Thanks! just added these
Give Me a Sign by Breaking Benjamin.
Trust me!
Oh and Rain King by Counting Crows.

Progigno de axis. It’s still on heavy rotation to this day.
that's a good suggestion, it does fit perfectly in an x files playlist
Anything liminal on YouTube, that TV show utilized liminal space so well.
There is a trap remix of the theme song on Spotify
Vesicle - Askel. I came across this song many years ago, and there is a sampled line that occurs at intervals throughout it and I swear they sampled a line that David Duchovny said, though it might not be specifically from Mulder.
This one always gave me X-files vibes, you have to listen to it all the through to really appreciate it.
Solar Fields - Sol (youtube.com)
added!
Moon Rocks by Talking Heads
added!
this is my x files themed playlist. you can steal some songs from that lol. i also highly recommend the band UFO, fitting name and fitting sound. you should listen to "martian landscape" by them, i like it sm.
that's a great playlist, and I'll give UFO a listen, I already love the name 'martian landscape' for a song lol
Steve Vai - Little Green Men
added!
“The Universe Sent Me”, by The Chemical Brothers Honorable mention, also by the Chems, to “Hoops”
added!
Like an updated version of this? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songs_in_the_Key_of_X:_Music_from_and_Inspired_by_the_X-Files
yeah, but also songs that just give off the spooky, atmospheric vibe that x-files gives off
Gypsys Tramps and Thieves i associate now with X Files
Keep your eyes peeled - Ultra Sunn
Crystal ship - X is p good and on the movie soundtrack
Where can I listen to this?
here's a link to the the playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7FJnj0IFjWNX13JyYZ6U9I?si=c67d130c5d1b4b37
whenever I hear Rage Against the Machine's version of Alan Ginsburgs Hadda be playing on a jukebox - it reminds me of the x-files https://youtu.be/RMbDMrFImfY?si=sqDsp5Lq7j_2IUkq
It's all about corrupt government, lots of talk of FBI and CIA being in cahoots with criminals, the assassination of JFK etc. Just fits the anti-establishment vibe
Here's one for you: https://www.reddit.com/r/XFiles/s/WdJXdIWA3W
The X Files album “Songs in the Key of X” might be a place to check also
Needs the X cover of Crystal Ship from the ftf soundtrack album. I believe the movie used the doors original but that cover is absolutely amazing.
Children of the Sun by Billy Thorpe.
I recently watched an episode w a handful of Syd Barrett songs. One that I remember is called "no good trying" :)
Is that the "Grey" from Jose Chung's? I really liked that guy.
Alien Covenant - main theme
Think it's just called 'The Covenant'
Survival Spheres

He sells his songs on Bandcamp in bundles of 100 for ten dollars each. He releases a new song about once a week, and if you own his most recent compilation, its retroactively added for you to download on Bandcamp. Give him a subscribe.
You're welcome!
