The Fox and the Grapes: Once upon a time, in a big, green forest, there lived a clever fox named Rusty. Rusty was always looking for a tasty snack, and his tummy rumbled with hunger most days!
One hot summer afternoon, Rusty was wandering through the forest when he spotted something wonderful – a vineyard! Purple grapes, round and juicy, hung in big bunches from the vines. The grapevines were like big umbrellas, offering shade from the bright sun.
“Oh my,” said Rusty, his mouth watering. “Those grapes look delicious! They would be the perfect feast!”
Rusty knew just how to get them. He took a few steps back, then ran as fast as his legs could carry him and… jumped! He stretched out his paws, but the grapes were just out of reach.
“Hmmm,” Rusty thought as he caught his breath. “I’ll have to try harder.”
Again, he ran and jumped, but still, the grapes were too high. Rusty tried again, and again, and again, each time leaping higher. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t reach the delicious prize.
Finally, Rusty flopped onto the ground, his tongue hanging out, tired and disappointed.
“Well,” he huffed, attempting to catch his breath. “Those grapes probably didn’t taste very good anyway. They were likely a bit too sour.”
And with that, Rusty turned his nose up high, pretending he didn’t want the grapes anymore, and trotted away, his tummy still grumbling.

The fox tried jumping up to the branch, but it was too high. He tried stretching his body as far as he could, but he still could not reach the grapes. After several attempts, the fox began to feel discouraged. He sat down under the tree and looked up at the grapes, feeling sad that he could not reach them. As he sat there, he thought to himself, “Those grapes must be sour anyway. They’re probably not even worth the effort.” And with that, he walked away, feeling defeated.
The moral of the story is that people often tend to dislike or belittle things that are out of their reach, simply because they cannot have them. In the case of the fox, he convinced himself that the grapes were not worth the effort, even though he had been so eager to eat them before he realized they were out of his reach.
This fable has become a classic example of the human tendency to make excuses and rationalize our disappointments when we don’t get what we want. However, the fox’s persistence and determination to reach the grapes can also inspire us to pursue our goals, even when they seem out of reach.
