the fact that there's only TWO known footage of jumpers hitting the ground on the surface... There's no way these are the only captured videos... Obviously there's much more but so well hidden and erased.

u/AccounrOfMonteCristo avatar

Oh I'm sure more graphic and personal stuff will be released to the public after everyone who remembers it is gone. Our grandkids will likely see some more of the jumpers hitting the ground.

I definitely remember seeing the video of them hitting the pavement. It left like a splat on the ground and it was on YouTube, the FBI have it but they're not releasing it

u/FN-1701AgentGodzilla avatar

Why didn’t whoever uploaded it reupload it again?

You're definately wrong on all accounts. Especially about the FBI. They have NO AUTHORITY OVER PEOPLE'S PRIVATE VIDEOS from their OWN cameras!!!! Just stop with this nonsense!

I'm pretty sure they do if they have footage of several federal crimes. Like, subpoenas and court orders exist.

Spell definitely right and then, and only then, can you have an opinion.

You are all twisted individuals. You are mad at someone for not wanting to share videos to you jumping off towers and dieing? Is this entertaining to you?

Released by who? You really think so secretive government agency is just sitting on tons of 911 film that is "too graphic" to release to the public? LOL! That is NOT how it works. The "government" does not own nor control private recordings and most people who had something interesting either shared it with or licensed it to the media. The reason you don't see more jumpers hitting the ground is very obvious: You generally have to have an unobstructed view of both way up high where they jumped from AND the ground to get such a video. Not many of our 9/11 videos are taken from such a vantage point. AND most people didn't exactly have great cameras that could zoom in without the dreaded digital zoom that would make everything so fuzzy AND most people can't track a fallen object like a pro. Please just stop with the conspiracy theories about there being all this footage that the FBI or others are sitting on. It's simply not true.

u/kevcasey avatar

relax take a chill pill

u/Current_Culture_1958 avatar

Please just stop being so fucking trusting of your government. CCtv cameras all around both bldgs, every major news outlet in newyork surrounded by hundreds of tourists with cameras and you cant imagine theres more then the videos weve been allowed too see. CCTV cameras alone were pointed at the ground where many bodies fell. Your in total denial if you dont think theres more

2027? What's going to happen then?

I don’t know if this is true but the fbi said some of their documents related to 9/11, JFK, etc will be released to the public.

I remember years and years ago prolly mid 2000s early YouTube days of video footage of Firefighters in the lobby of the one tower and they hear what they think are explosions and one firefighter turns around and says “no those are the people jumping hitting the ground” and there was just an eerie silence from everyone after. Of course I can’t find that video anywhere now. Nuts.

It’s from the documentary the Naudet brothers made I believe.

Yes it is, I happened to watch that documentary last week

The first iPhone wasn’t released until seven years later. In that time you needed a video recorder that used digital tape. Video recording wasnt as ubiquitous as it is today. Especially when running for your life

While it absolutely was nowhere near as common as today, many people had phones like the Nokia 3310 that could record video. Especially in an area populated by busy business folk, it's not hard to believe that a large percentage of them wouldve been able to record with their phones. However, you're absolutely right it would be difficult to remember given the circumstances.

I owned a Nokia 3310 at that time. It had a black and white pixel display you could play snake (the video game) on and a query keyboard for texting, which still wasn't really a thing. You had to hit each button an appropriate amount of times to slowly spell out a word. It did NOT have a camera on it. It was the first cell phone I ever owned and up until that point I had a pager.

You are absolutely correct, I looked it up and was thinking of a different model, thank you! You seem to have much more experience with the time, how common would it have been for someone to have a camera phone? In your opinion, would there be a denser crowd with those phones among business folk?

The people who have the footage of it probably never released it

u/ReluctantPhilosophy avatar

Why are you all wanting to see this. Surely imagination is more than enough. Morbid to watch this

u/Lordquas187 avatar

I remember seeing a video from thr ground where you couldn't see the video but there were insanely loud booms echoing through the streets randomly and everyone was speculating as to what the sound was

Would you bring a camcorder to your office job in 2001 before you had a cell? There's your answer. Different times

u/Current_Culture_1958 avatar

Tourists? It is newyork. And yeah alot of people had them everywhere back then and were using the smaller tapes by that point

Stupid comment under example of such a video. No there weren't tons. There were more disposable cameras than anything.

u/Current_Culture_1958 avatar

I had been alive along time by then and video cameras were alot more prevalent then you kids seem to believe. Generation of zombies that cant stop idolizing their phones

I wouldn't necessarily think anything is hidden or erased. This was 2001 where camera phones had just hit the market. People didn't just leave their houses with digital cameras.

There's a better chance media outlets probably have footage but doubt they'll release anything like that.

The day of- there is footage of someone recording close to the building. You can hear these “pop” sounds (IDK how to describe). It’s bodies hitting the ground.

It’s heart devastating.

One of the scariest times in my life and I was nowhere near NYC. My empathy for those that lived this is vast.

Bro, most cellphones didn't had filming capabilities back in 2001, and the ones that did, the quality was very poor, let alone that many people didn't even had a cellphone. The only captured footages that are worthy are the ones with digital filming cameras, and the chaos was so crazy that day that barely nobody would dare stop and film the people hitting the floor, most footage are from a far distance and even then they sound terrified

u/jbdatx avatar

Why do you think it's obvious there is much more video? The attacks on 9/11 are still the most recorded event in history, the vast majority of videos were recorded by random private citizens on their own cameras, why would you think people who took the time to shoot a video would then decide to erase or hide it? Makes zero sense.

If anyone is wondering, this footage was taken by Guy Rosbrook from the 35th floor of the Millennium Hilton, specifically in the SW corner suite. He also zoomed in on several bodies towards the NE corner of the North Tower. You can watch the video here if you want to: Guy Rosbrook's 9/11 WTC Footage (Enhanced Video/Audio & Doubled FPS) - YouTube

Body zoom-in is at 6:50, and the jumper hitting the stage starts around 14:35.

i jusnt cant see the body, indistinguishable

If this is the footage I’m thinking of, then there is a part of the video where you can hear a couple next door screaming.

u/Smokeybear420g avatar

Well it's rumored to be a TV or movie in the background bc most of the guest were in the lobby except for them.

Plus you can hear the huge thud sound when that person hit the edge of the stage.... Sounds like a bomb.

u/Average_Lrkr avatar
Edited

Yeah. Conspiracy theorists say reports indicated explosion sounds before the towers fell and during the burning of the buildings……those “explosions” were the sound of people electing to jump rather than burn to death

Yeah your right about that because that loud bomb sound is their bones breaking.

u/Average_Lrkr avatar

It’s haunting how far away they are from The camera yet how loud the sound is

That some scary stuff but I know it was worse for those who seen it up close and police claimed that they have videos and photos of folks hitting the ground but that will never come out because it would be too much for the family members.

You can see firefighters who were there say multiple bombs went off in the lobby. On the day with the dust on them. Right after collapse. Their profession is knowing the difference. There IS a difference. I’m surprised it’s allowed now because I watched it get censored everywhere for like 15 years.

u/Average_Lrkr avatar

First off, explosives is not their profession. Secondly, floors pancaking and the air pressure from that force will sound like explosions. Same with the sound of bodies falling from the top floors of the trade center. Find me actual proof of people confirming explosions from explosives. Because we are 22 years later here and nothing has ever been provided to prove this asinine claim

This is the biggest ass pull I've ever read even now 22 years later. Let me see your source for this absolutely ridiculous theory.

Edit: There is a common belief that around 200ish people jumped that day. And you believe that the majority of them fell within the 5 - 10 seconds the building collapsed on itself? You media sheep will believe anything but holy shit this is pathetic.

Someone drank the conspiracy nut koolaid...

No source, no science, no rebuttal, just some low effort "coNspIrAcY" response. You people depress me.

I don't get what you're trying to say here. Are you implying that 200 people didn't jump from those buildings and that they were all CGI or something? Fella, there's literally dozens, if not hundreds, of video clips, including ones posted here, showing exactly that happening. There's pictures of dead people in this thread that jumped. There are thousands upon thousands of eye witness' that were there that day that sat and watched it happen. Seriously, if you think this was all a con, you need your head checked, because you're mental.

i find it hard to believe theres only 2 pieces of footage, thats just nuts

Nah there's way more since people were recording and there were surveillance cameras everywhere but police probably confiscated most of the footage.

i really doubt that only 2 werent confiscated. theres definitely people out there with footage on an old camera, i guess some people just might not be aware of the rarity of such footage, idk

Like I said many people were recording that day and there's surveillance cameras everywhere so there's way more footage of all the chaos that has taken place and some people were arrested that day for recording.

I agree with you on many people recording. As for security camera footage, this was 2001. A lot of the recordings were saved to tape with some saved to hdds. Cloud didn’t exist. 1080p didn’t exist. Whatever footage was saved/found probably couldn’t make out a lot of detail and that footage had to have come from off site. I’d assume alot of the tower’s security footage would be gone.

You should read my reply to u/Visionart88 above explaining why and how there would be so little video recorded so close to Ground Zero to capture such footage.

More replies
u/Kill_The_Hippies avatar

Any surveillance footage that was close enough to be able to capture anyone hitting the ground around Ground Zero would have been completely destroyed during the collapses. Surveillance videos tend to point towards point of entry of the building, not across the street, pointed at other buildings unrelated etc. It was 2001 so even those that could have captured anything had it all stored on site on a hardcopy. There was no cloud or online storage.

Any other footage would have been shot by people in the hotel(s) or right outside but within 30 minutes of both towers getting hit, a massive evacuation order took place from the surrounding area, both outside and those inside various buildings where told to get out and get away in like 6 block radius so they didn't have much time. Again, 2001. Rarely did people who where not skaters or tourists walk around with a video camera at the ready.

I just want to chime in late because recently I found my parents old Digital8 Sony camcorder (DCR-TRV320, incase you're curious) they got in 2000. Its literally the type of camera you'd have during 9/11/01. I'm in the middle of digitizing it.

I've been talking to my parents about this Things I've noticed with these analog/physical media. It is a pain to carry around and really don't see why anybody would be carrying this unless they had a purpose to which in the case in NYC would be a tourist or someone documenting something or making a film, which most of the clips we see are (Tourists on a boat recording, someone making a firefighter documentary, someone in a hotel that just happened to be next to the towers had a camcorder and could film.) 9/11 occurred on a Tuesday morning at 9am, the odds of a tourist with a bulky camcorder near the Twin Towers seems low, even lower for someone making a film or documentary (prior to the attacks.) I'm basing this assumption on the fact that even online now its very uncommon to find pre-911 videos of the Twin Towers taken from a tourist's camcorder outside the towers early in the morning on a workday. Any one with a camcorder inside the Tower would be safe to assume that those tapes were destroyed.

There's probably just a handful, less than 10, of footage that has close up of a jumper from start to end. Of those its very easy to just forget where the tape is, it never gets labeled, someone doesn't watch it again, its buried in an attic, etc. Its a shame because after a decade or more the 8mm cassettes will start to degrade or the data starts to get corrupted with the nature of magnetic tapes just being in storage. I already have a few tapes from 1991 and 1992 that are corrupted and unplayable today in 2024. just in a decade tapes from 2001 will those degraded tapes.

There weren't too many videos on the net in the years that followed, but I do remember seeing lots of gory images on ogrish.com.

I still don’t believe that’s a person. It looks like sparks flying from an electrical pole, and whatever is falling is super flat.

u/Asseman avatar

I was skeptical at first but there is another video of a jumper falling from a different angle with a similar sound to this one in the same location

I don’t think that’s a person. I saw a video of firefighters watching someone fall and it sounds like a huge pile of textbooks hitting the ground in the video. This video looks and sounds like a metal sheet or something imo.
