Canadian low-cost carrier WestJet Airlines (WS) is the country's second largest airline. Along with its regional subsidiary WestJet Encore, the airline flies to about 90 destinations. These include destinations in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe. The airline also has codeshare arrangements with more than a dozen other carriers. WestJet operates airplanes with all Economy Class seating. Passengers can opt for certain fares (known as Plus) that offer preferred seating in the front of the plane with extra legroom. The airline has hubs at Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

I really used to love flying Westjet but my last few flights a good number of the staff have been rude and unhelpful. My flight today is what has finally brought me here to review my experience. Today, while already extremely late for a flight due to a driver that slept in…(not westjets fault) but, the checkin clerk insisted on charging me $100 Canadian because my bag was half a pound over weight and with nowhere to shift the weight to and the fact the bag weighed the exact same as when I came to France (the goods I purchased were in my carry on) she stuck with I have to pay or throw out some of my clothes….. though it’s not their fault we were extremely late and it would have been nice to receive some compassion and understanding that we are currently under a lot of stress, and with the fact that we had to run across a very large airport with a child this was not a great experience. I would understand if it was a lot over weight but the bag was close and they have waived it in the past. To add to it the flight attendants were being short with everyone, and really felt like they were being paid extra to treat people poorly and not smile. This did not go for all of the flight staff just the ones in the back of the plane, apparently economy is second rate garbage and is not worthy of being treated nicely. Guess paying out the but for a crammed flight wasn’t enough….. will be seriously considering other options even if it costs more in the future.…

Always Always Always delayed or cancelled and never ever a decent back up plan available.. won't even allow you to drive to another airport for leg of trip despite having availability elsewhere. Held hostage in order to use paid tickets.

I asked for a call back, which I received and the female employee would not make changes to my flight because she said she couldn’t authenticate my west jet account. I gave her my number, name, birthdate, and email. Her reply was” you need to give me more but I can’t tell you what info to give. “ This was beyond ridiculous!! She then said I had to rephone and try with another agent. I asked her to speak to her supervisor but she put me on hold with no intention of forwarding my call. Unprofessional! Rude! And uncooperative. I phoned back, spoke with a new agent and gave him the exact information and there was no problem making any changes . This airline has become horribly mismanaged. I am still waiting for my complaint to the Federal Government agency when they refused to compensate me for losing my luggage for 58 days…

I am profoundly disappointed with my recent experience with WestJet. Our journey began in Fort McMurray, where our scheduled flight, set to board at 1:50 PM, was delayed until approximately 3:30 PM. This delay caused significant stress and inconvenience, especially considering my back injury. Upon arrival in Calgary for our connecting flight to Lethbridge, there was a complete lack of communication regarding whether the flight had been held for us or departed without us. Despite my physical limitations, I had to navigate the airport, only to find no one at the gate. After seeking assistance at a customer service counter, we were informed that we had been rebooked on the 11:10 PM flight to Lethbridge. However, during the six-hour wait for this flight, no food vouchers or any form of compensation were provided, leaving us stranded without any support. To exacerbate matters, the 11:10 PM flight was ultimately cancelled, a fact we only discovered at 10:10 PM, leaving us in a state of uncertainty and frustration. This entire ordeal, from the initial delays to the ultimate cancellation, has not only caused significant physical discomfort and emotional distress but has also resulted in missed professional and personal commitments. The lack of communication, support, and basic provisions such as food vouchers during these extensive delays is utterly unacceptable. Furthermore, witnessing the distress of fellow passengers, who were similarly affected and facing missed childcare arrangements and important events such as funerals, highlights the lack of human decency and empathy demonstrated by WestJet in handling such situations. In conclusion, I cannot recommend WestJet based on this experience. The series of delays, cancellations, and lack of support have severely impacted my trust in the airline's ability to provide reliable and compassionate service. Future travelers should be aware of these shortcomings and consider alternative options for their travel needs.…
