Tokyo Women’s Medical University Hospital (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo)

The TWMU’s foundational philosophy is “Sincerity and Compassion.” “Utmost sincerity” and “warm-heartedness (compassion)” are required in all settings including education, research, and clinical practice. Our medical centers, too, are operated in accordance with this philosophy, and this tradition has been passed down continuously from predecessors to young physicians.
The Hospital has about 50 clinical departments to provide advanced and appropriate treatment. In addition to state-of-the-art catheter treatment and endoscopic treatment, it performs about 10,000 surgeries per year, about 600 robot-assisted surgeries per year, and numerous minimally invasive surgeries, such as laparoscopic surgery, offering one of the most advanced medical care in Japan.
The Hospital attaches importance not only to providing the most advanced, leading medical care but also to ensuring patient satisfaction. The entire staff works concertedly around the clock to provide medical care, so that patients with various illnesses can feel reassured when they visit the Hospital, leave with hope, and return to their homes with a smile on their face.
In the area of research, each clinical department is conducting advanced research. In addition, cutting-edge research is being carried out between basic medicine and clinical medicine, among clinical departments, and at TWIns, a TWMU-Waseda University joint institution, in order to support university-wide research across organizations.
For education at the School of Medicine, the Hospital provides pre- and post-graduate education in cooperation with the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing, based on the founding spirit of “we intend to nurture female medical professionals who can contribute to the society and refine their personalities through the pursuit of deep understanding of medical sciences.”
The Hospital will continue to offer patient-first, patient-friendly, and advanced medical care, as well as conduct education and research, placing the highest priority on safety and quality.

Adachi Medical Center (Adachi-ku, Tokyo)

The former Medical Center East was opened as “Ogu Hospital” in Ogu, Arakawa-ku in 1934 and, while undergoing a name change, has since supported medical care in the community as a branch of the University Hospital for many years. However, due to the aging of the facility, a new hospital was constructed in Kohoku, Adachi-ku at the suggestion of Adachi-ku and the wise decision of Chancellor Iwamoto. The hospital, renamed Adachi Medical Center, was completed in August 2021 and opened for patient care on January 1,2022. It retains the former center’s 21 clinical departments and 7 clinical support divisions and continues to carry out its missions as a regional core hospital (regional medical care support hospital, regional core disaster base hospital, secondary emergency medical institution, regional cancer treatment hospital, perinatal medical center, designated hospital for Tokyo DMAT, designated hospital for clinical training, and cooperative hospital for cancer genomic medicine) in the northeast part of Tokyo (Arakawa-ku, Adachi-ku, and Katsushika-ku). The Center also has the only tertiary emergency care center in this area. In 2020, it had the second highest number of ambulance admissions in Tokyo among the city’s 26 tertiary emergency care centers. As the Center has both the characteristics of an educational institution as a university hospital and those of a general hospital that provides community-based medical care, it can offer lectures and hospital training that are in line with actual clinical practice for both diseases which are frequently seen in ordinary clinical settings and also rare diseases which may be seen only in university hospitals.

Yachiyo Medical Center (Yachiyo-shi, Chiba)

The Tokyo Women’ s Medical University Yachiyo Medical Center (TYMC) was opened in 2006 as a high-performance hospital which can provide acute-phase medical care. The philosophy of the TYMC is the “rapport between reliable heart-warming medical care for the local community and our acute-phase/high-performance/advanced medical care.” The TYMC has played significant roles in the community medical care in the south area of Tokatsu, Chiba, with Yachiyo-shi being its center. In 2007, the TYMC was designated as a general perinatal care center and as a disaster base hospital in 2009. Furthermore, the Center was designated as a liaison hospital for cancer patients in Chiba prefecture in 2011, and in 2016 it was designated as an emergency and critical care center providing tertiary emergency care. In this way, the TYMC has played significant roles in medical care for adult patients with ischemic heart diseases, cerebrovascular disorders, malignancies, diabetes mellitus, psychiatric diseases, etc. whose incidences are expected to further increase in future, as well as in infant/perinatal care in Chiba prefecture.TYMC acquired the accreditation by JCI in February 2020, and specified the first pediatric critical care center in Chiba prefecture in April 2021.
