Good morning, answers would be appreciated for 1 and 3, and confirmation for
2, 4, 5. Thanks in advance. I wrote to the Telegraph to report that the list of letters has not been sent.
Cryptic Connections
In a Cryptic Connections puzzle, five cryptic crossword clues must be solved; their answers can be made from the list of letters given underneath. Once all the clues have been solved, some letters will be unused; these can be arranged to give a word or phrase that links the answers to the five clues.
1 Almost disastrous, heading for right room (7)
2 Something sung in a state ... or two? (8) CAROLINA
3 Strike tramp (5)
4 Sound hooter with one inside (5) NOISE
5 Delight as pedant exposed (6) PANTED

To enter, please email the five clue answers and connection, together with your name and postal address and with a subject line of 'Newsletter', to [email protected], to arrive by 9am on Friday, November 19.

2 looks ok, so does 4
1 Parlour?
parlour looks good- parlou(s)+r
Am not convinced yet by 'panted'
3 march as a long shot if march can = strike?
or pound?
Bob, could be one of many answers that would fit.We need the list of letters that is missing.
Whatever the total list of letters is I cant think of any never mind MANY other answers that could fit the clue "3 Strike tramp (5)" danny
But yeah the letters would certainly help overal and would help clarify whether panted is right or wrong
stamp stomp clomp tread Etc.
LIke you I don't think panted fits delight.
okay wouldnt of thought of some of those as meaning strike aswell but we;ll have to wait and see if the letters turn up. Do you agree with panted?
Am struggling to see a link between the ones that look right- parlour (beauty/games?), noise, carolina
5 For panted to work the clue should read delighted not delight.
Is the clue right danny? wonder if it was 'delighted' but still not sur panted would work.
can see a possible link to colours- Carolina blue, white noise, green pound but I think it has to be a single word link?
I don't seehow panted would fit delighted'
Bob, as I said, we need the missing list of letters.
Do you have the competition on your screen danny? Am wondering if the clue for 3 is exactly right, maybe abits missing
^ sorry meant clue 5
PINK fits the known answers.
