3rd Millenium M800 speakers (NC)
So over the weekend I replaced the stock (non-Bose) speakers in my NC with these:

I'm very happy with them so far, especially for the price. Bass response is drastically improved, but I'm still noticing distortion on vocals and treble at high volume. I'm thinking this is a power issue but as a novice I thought I'd ask you guys. So how can I get the best sound out of these new speakers? If an aftermarket amp is the next step, can anybody recommend one that works well with the NC?
UPDATE: I just ordered this amp: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-eACsHZ5Ht8q/p_130GMD1004/Pioneer-GM-D1004.html. I decided that since my goal is clear sound at high volume with the top down I would need more power sooner or later whether or not I decide to swap the H/U. I'll update this post once I get the amp installed and have a chance to re-evaluate the system.
UPDATE 2: Installed the amp this weekend -- the speakers sound great now. For anybody doing their own install that finds this post, I put my amp in a cavity above and to the left of the glove box. It could have easily gone under the passenger seat too. Here are the wires you need to splice into (from the larger of the two harnesses going into the stock stereo).
-
Constant 12V (Blue/red wire)
-
Left front speaker positive (Red wire)
-
Left front speaker negative (Green wire)
-
Right front speaker positive (White/black wire)
-
Right front speaker negative (Yellow/red wire)

Did you also change the head unit or is it still stock?
Everything is stock non-bose except the large door speakers. Small door speakers (tweeters) are unplugged as per 3rd millennium's advice
I've heard a new head unit really helps out even on stock speakers, so I'd say that's the next step before adding an amp. I'd probably pick up one of those android touch screen head units. (Though I'm no means an audio expert, so take it with a grain of salt)
I'm very reluctant to swap the h/u because I live in a big city and I've had issues with break-ins before. That being said, I'd be interested in hearing from someone who did swap the h/u and what differences it made in sound quality
There is some good info on Miata.net about that. I'm doing performance modifications before I start doing audio and appearance stuff.
Clarion makes a marine head unit that links orm. But your factory stereo may produce more juice lol. Ask me how I know. I love the way mines looks but my 3rd mellinium are weak enough they both are begging for an amp. I'm an NB bose guy. If I had went with this head unit from the beginning I wouldn't have blown the bose amp and main relay with the Sony unit previously installed. I'll figure this all out eventually.
