Depends on your region. If you're in the US, 3rd millennium make good drop-in replacements.
Speaking from experience, Dropping in better speakers is better than not changing them. That being said, you will not believe how good the new speakers will sound if you take the time to seal up(relatively) and sound deaden the door. Turning the door into an automotive quality speaker cabinet changes everything- for the better. I sound deadened the doors of my ‘18 Jetta and couldn’t believe that the factory stock speakers could sound so good.
Last month I swapped out the disintegrating 33 yo factory door speakers on my ‘90 na for a pair of 4.5” A/D/S brand 2 way separates and I wish you could come hear it! The poor Jetta speakers are still “good” but nowhere near the SQ in the Miata now even with it’s stock 33yo AM/FM cd player/cassette deck! AMA, I love helping people get better sound for not that much money.
I have and will soon install a front stage amp and a pair of 8” JBL subs with their own amp to the Miata!
thank you for all this info, any recommendations on good direct fit door speakers for like under 250$? don’t wanna cheap out too much and can’t find too much info
Thanks for the trust! I really like speakers from Polk, Pioneer, Focal. I think that at the $250 limit you are able to get excellent sounding speakers from almost any manufacturer.
But even the best speakers won’t sound nearly as good as they could if you don’t give them a good environment to work in. Obviously They will sound better than the old broken down factory speakers, better than $50 speakers the the previous owner replaced the stock ones with, but spend a little more for materials(kill mat/dynamat/noico-they all work well, and some acoustic foam) and then do the work to make the door a relatively sealed, vibration free speaker cabinet, and you won’t be disappointed!
Post a review of what you do and how it sounds, ok? Ps, there are many YouTube vids on sound deadening a car, look at a bunch of them and you will get the feel for what is good and what is just crazy.
Did you sound deaden your Miata's doors too?
How did you sound deadened your doors?
How much detail would you like?
Just curious what material you use and where in the door you out it
That’s literally the only thing I sound deadened.
Yeah, I was asking if you did it in your Miata as well as in the Jetta.
Ah, yes both, but the Jetta only got a basic door treatment and the Miata got almost a maximum door treatment
