NY Rangers lines tonight: Will Cuylle healthy scratched

The NY Rangers lines tonight have an interesting wrinkle, as Will Cuylle will be the healthy scratch in favor of a fourth line consisting of Barclay Goodrow, Matt Rempe, and Jonny Brodzinski, with Jimmy Vesey jumping up to 3LW. On Friday, we discussed that there would likely be a rotation, and that appears to be the case, even if Cuylle wasn’t expected to be a part of it initially.

Peter Laviolette later mentioned he would rotate Cuylle, Brodzinski, and Rempe down the stretch, along with anyone else who might be banged up. Leaving Goodrow off this rotation is certainly a decision, given his own injuries this season.

The rotation is going to be a roller coaster ride, and Cuylle’s scratch is likely the worst of it. Perhaps this is some kind of 4D chess where Laviolette is figuring out lines in the playoffs should Cuylle struggle.

Worth noting Cuylle hasn’t struggled and has been one of the best forwards in terms of xGF% since the trade deadline, but perhaps we are missing something that the coaching staff sees.
