      Critics Consensus

It's bound to hit some viewers as an empty exercise in stylish gore, and despite a gonzo starring performance from Eva Green, 300: Rise of an Empire is a step down from its predecessor.

Me gusto. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review Justin W In continuing blood flow art, you get exactly what you expect, but I still missed the hot gate. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/24 Full Review Nico W As a big fan of the original 300 i found myself confused and lost during rise of an empire don't get me wrong the cinematography the special effects the gore its phenomenal but as a story it just doesn't hit as hard as 300 did the sea battles are phenomenal and the action is entertaining as hell but gaps in the story leave lot to be desired for instance when did Leonidas's wife learn to battle with sword and shield when they never even talked about her being involved in combat. The movie is considerably shorter than 300. But make no mistake if you want to get a follow up to one of the greatest pieces of film in recent history then Rise Of A Empire is not half bad it also has alot of WTF moments for example when the main character charges in for the final battle he does it on a horse in the middle of the ocean okay writing this is sounds pretty awesome but the thing is where 300 focused on the history of the spartans and there sacrifice to save there country Rise of a empire does the opposite focusing more on the action and Fantasy movie genre then a modern action documentary so to say like 300 was. All things considered its not bad personally i feel that the way 300 ended we didn't need a sequel to it and its yet another way for Hollywood to make a quick buck of a franchise that is now sadly as dead as Leonidas Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/02/24 Full Review Audience Member If you like gore and action then this movie has it for you! I was confused at first because I didn’t realize this battle was happening simultaneously with the first movie battle. But all in all, worth the watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/29/23 Full Review Brett P Oh boy this movie is a mess. 300 is such an entertaining and iconic film filled some of the most quotable movies scenes of all time. Whereas this, is one of the most forgettable films I've ever seen in my life. The characters and story is just so bland and I could never fully immerse myself into the plot. I had no emotional connection to any of the characters. The pacing is messed up by the unnecessarily long exposition of each villain. It's just a complete mess and a failure in the writing department. There are definitely some good things about this movie like the action and cinematography. Other than that, there's nothing else going for this movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/17/23 Full Review Hossein S Very bad CGI. The blood looks like sour cherry juice. Changing in history. Fight scenes don't fulfill you and are unbelievable. Exaggeration in the power of the Greek army and the weakness of the Persian army. Also, the film is so imaginary that The king of Persia dies from an arch from long range. Even there is a horse in the ship battle. Another point is Greek don't have armor and they are naked and so fit but the Persian army is so silly and all of them wear it. And The Persian king is a devil but he looks like an idiot. I think this movie is planned to brainwash people about Persia and Persian culture and their history. By the way, the soundtrack was good. Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online 300: Rise of an Empire... may focus on the brawny Greek and Persian battles of the 480-479 BC era, but it also presents a kickass group of complex women characters whose sexual prowess is as mighty as their swords. Rated: B+ Sep 5, 2017 Full Review David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) [The story] gets constantly literally swamped by the blood and gore and so forth, which is well done but almost to the point of parody.
