      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

24: Legacy offers well-acted escapism, yet this reboot also inherits many of its predecessor's flaws, and an early narrative rut signals a missed opportunity for reinvention.

Evan W The only thing the same as 24 is the ticking clock, the events in real time, and Tony Almeida as a guest star. Most of the acting and story line is sub-par at best. I felt myself cringing frequently while watching. This spinoff or whatever it is has no comparison to 24, and in my humble opinion it’s a complete miss. Save your time and just rewatch 24. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/16/24 Full Review Dave C Yeah, they should have stopped at ‘Day 9'/24: Live Another Day Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/04/23 Full Review Brett R It's good.... It's just not "24" as we enjoyed from 2001 to 2014. A 5.4 to 6/10 feels fair since the writing is so frustrating, but without Jack it was probably doomed. By Day 7, the cast became a carousel to set up stories for Jack and Chloe, and few of the characters from the salad days were still in the mix by the time we arrived at 2016 (or 2020), and the major character that DOES come back is... compromised, so maybe fundamentally this spinoff couldn't work. I give it a 6.8/10, mostly for reminding us the story never ends, and no joke, these 12 hours are probably better than S6's dreadful 24. It's okay to skip since it was cancelled after one season and doesn't serve the franchise well. If anything, it needlessly killed the franchise when the country needed it the most. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/17/23 Full Review Audience Member utter garbage end to end Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Should have left this one alone. 24 introduced an interesting concept in its maiden season and kept us on the edge of our seat for a few more seasons... but it sure didn't warrant a reboot. Eric Deggans NPR The first three episodes of "24: Legacy" will feel more like a missed opportunity, a chance for reinvention, which instead delivered a lot that we've seen before. Nov 26, 2019 Full Review Jonathan Pile Empire Magazine Previously the one ever-present, the prospect of 24 without Bauer initially feels like The Sopranos without Tony. It's a bold move. Aug 5, 2021 Full Review Isaac Feldberg Cut Print Film Like its predecessor, Legacy is an incredulity-stretching exercise in adrenaline, a pulse-pounding caper with little narrative meat on its all-American bones but a whole lot of action-cliché gristle in its teeth.
