For Christmas, my sister gave me $50.00 to spend here, and I bought this wonderful album of gospel and songs about the USA. I've traveled to America with my Uncle, and these songs are true American songs at their finest. This album was fun and exciting all the way through and this will bring enjoyment. Sandy's voice in this album is top noch and the musicians are true country and western musicians. Highly recommended if you enjoy country and western music.
Pleasantly (no, make that happily) surprised with this CD.... the Single Girl from the 60's is right at home with Country, Bluegrass, and old standards. Any Marine would particularly enjoy cut #19 the Marines Hymn where Sandy does justice to all the verses.... my favorite is #14 Picture Turned Toward The Wall.
I love Sandy Posey, more famous for her singles "A Single Girl", "Born To Be Hurt", "What A Woman In Love Won't Do" and "I Take It Back". Well, this album of famous country, bluegrass and gospel songs demonstrates that there was more to her than the tunes mentioned.
She sings beautifully on this set, particularly on the lovely "Beautiful Isle Of Somewhere" and "Frankie & Johnny" which are my favourites; but, honestly, you could mention any of the 22 tracks, because the standard of singing is top quality. She really did have a voice to behold. The instrumental arrangements are very uncomplicated and what I would expect for the type of music - slide guitar, dobro, fiddle and mandolin are all here and compliment the singing without drowning it out.
An interesting track is "My Country 'Tis Of Thee" which is an uptempo number, played to a jaunty version of the English National Anthem.
King Records should be congratulated on putting this album out and I am wondering if there is any more unreleased material that we should know about.
