I'm a teacher who is now homeschooling. This book is a survey of the 20th century, and while it may be hard to select ALL the meaningful events, some of the choices seem odd. There is as much space devoted to Reagan as there is to the entire Civil Rights movement, and Reagan is portrayed as a social and economic hero (rather than in a neutral way). Martin Luther King's Letter From a Birmingham Jail is portrayed as vaguely threatening rather than a call for unity (see sample page) There is no mention of JFK at all.The vocabulary & text levels also don't seem to match. The sentences are short so it seems as if it's written for a younger elementary audience, but the actual words (as seen in the sample here) require quite a bit of scaffolding/explaining. I wish the vocab matched so my kids could access the text independently.I wouldn't order this again.
