Top 50 Best Films of 2021
Just my prediction of what I think will be the best films of 2021. Because why the hell not in this time. Seriously 2021 seems like where movie life will get back together. Because holy crap who would have thought this would be happening 3 months ago. At least we do have some big movies coming out in 2021.

- DirectorLauren HadawayStarsIsabelle FuhrmanAmy ForsythDiloneA college freshman joins her university's rowing team and undertakes an obsessive physical and psychological journey to make it to the top varsity boat, no matter the cost.My new favorite movie of the year. The year of 2021 that is. And it was the first new movie I saw of 2022. I still have a lot of catching up to do but I’m glad I’m starting with this one because this shit is straight fire. First of all I love my girl Isabelle Fuhrman who I have been waiting to get a lead role ever since Orphan. She freaking nails it. Both her and new director, Lauren Hadaway have done the unthinkable. It manages to do everything I love about chaotic cinema. This is a movie that gets every beat right and never lets up. I found personal at the same time distant because I couldn’t quite put my finger on where this is going. A lot of emotion was put into the movie and it paid off.
10/10 - DirectorZack SnyderStarsHenry CavillBen AffleckGal GadotDetermined to ensure that Superman's ultimate sacrifice wasn't in vain, Bruce Wayne recruits a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions.I don’t know how to put into words how awesome this is. I have been arguing with people saying the Snyder Cut is real it is out there and Zack will finish what he started. And here it is baby.- Before seeing it.
Now after fully seeing it, I only have one problem- that it is I wish it was longer. Naw I’m kidding, he does over due the slow motion and the music video aspect at times. And even some lines are a little cheesy. But other than that holy crap this is the movie that really made me go I’m watching something special here. It is amazing from start to finish because I haven’t been this amazed by anything on this scale in a long time. I also got to say these are my heroes. These fools do not mess around which I love. I have to say that these actors are acting. I know that’s what they are supposed to do but I’m serious time after time I was believing in their performances in how much weight this all is. From Cyborg to Wonder Woman to hell even Flash with that end fight. He is amazing in that finally fight. Cyborg of course is more fleshed out and we even see him in human form which makes you realize just how much he lost. He goes through an incredible arc that any person with a brain will go stupid why was this cut out. I can go on and on about what this movie accomplishes but truly it resonated with me in how emotional I got watching a movie about superheroes. It makes me so happy to see Zack finish what he started. It is beautiful.
10/10 - DirectorJon WattsStarsTom HollandZendayaBenedict CumberbatchWith Spider-Man's identity now revealed, Peter asks Doctor Strange for help. When a spell goes wrong, dangerous foes from other worlds start to appear, forcing Peter to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.Easily the best out of the trilogy of Tom’s, top 3 of the MCU and only second to the best of the best of Spider-Man movies. This is some of the best acting and writing I have seen in modern blockbusters in a very long time. I have seen all the arguments, I have seen everyone bitching about how big blockbusters like this are ruining cinema or how this is just a nostalgic trip or even a half baked idea that doesn’t go anywhere. So when I say that this is a film that takes itself serious and it is not to be messed with. Now this is how you make a crowd pleasing action romp that deals a lot with characters and story that does not disappoint. I’m sorry if people didn’t get the same reaction as some of us who hold this movie up as high as I do. This is a centric character study of a man who had all the odds against him but he prevailed and came out on top. I fucking love this movie and the fact that it is a Spider-Man movie makes it even better. Spider Verse is better but this is a damn close second.
9/10 - DirectorFran KranzStarsJason IsaacsMartha PlimptonAnn DowdThe parents of both the shooter and one of the victims of a school shooting tragedy agree to meet and talk in an attempt to move forward. My top 5 right now almost seem untouchable. These are 5 great films that I truly don’t see them being over turned. Which is why I put Mass here because no matter what Oscar movie I see next, like Licorice Pizza, Red Rocket, or even Nightmare Alley this will not be touched. I love every second of this movie because it made reconsidered the opening because while I wasn’t too crazy for the opening towards the end it made sense as to why that was included. Every performance in here should be considered for the Oscars and the SAG completely snubbed this movie as best film ensemble. It is almost insulting to at least not nominate Jason Isaacs or Martha Plimpton. That to me is the bigger insult here. They are just phenomenal in a movie that tries its best to heal a broken heart.
9/10 - DirectorSian HederStarsEmilia JonesMarlee MatlinTroy KotsurAs a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) Ruby is the only hearing person in her deaf family. When the family's fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her passion at Berklee College of Music and her fear of abandoning her parents. The breakout hit out of Sundance this year may be overhyped only if based on the fact that it is the most expensive purchase in Sundance history.
Movies like this get release every year. It is a predictable yet feel good family drama that surely is easily digestible and if you say that to anyone who loves this movie they take that as an insult. But to me the joy of this movie is exactly for that reason. Sure that doesn’t sound like high praise but we have come accustom to watching long TV shows, or movies where they last for 2 and a half hours only to end on a cliff hanger to showcase the next installment. And it will never happen.
Good thing CODA is none of that. It is a single contained film that doesn’t over stay it’s welcome and this is important the movie feels complete. I don’t feel the need to watch a whole 10 episode season, I don’t need a sequel, or a prequel, or really any of that stuff. This movie did its job with the story it had and made me feel great. I sat and watched this almost 2 hour movie uninterrupted by phones along with other distractions. It was really good which makes this film stand out from the rest of the other Summer movies that couldn’t offer what this movie does. As much as I love AOTD and other films that came out this year these movie have the same formula. Yes this does follow technically a plot you can see coming from a mile away. If you couldn’t tell beat by best what was going to happen at the end then you really haven’t watched a lot of movies.
But even with its predictability this movie will still get you. Sian Heder directorial debut in 2016 Tallulah was a nice little film but to me this elevates her to do bigger material. Her along with Emma Seligman are really talented and are not presented enough to do bigger projects. Just whatever screenplay they have in store ready to direct they should have the go ahead.
Emilia Jones who plays the CODA is an ultimate triple threat. She can act, do sign language, and yeah she can fucking sing. Seriously if Timothée Chalamet got so much praise out of Call Me by Your Name than the same love and credit should be given to her. Along with the rest of her family. Her dad, her mom, and her brother are all a slap in the face to Hollywood to cast the appropriate actors. Sure Emilia Jones may not actually not be a CODA but having actual deaf actors play her family members make the moments of intimacy more realistic than any other film I have seen this year. I really had a great time watching it.
Apple TV+ might be a hard sell because it is another streaming service but damn if I haven’t love what they have been putting out.
9/10 - DirectorShaka KingStarsLaKeith StanfieldDaniel KaluuyaJesse PlemonsOffered a plea deal by the FBI, William O'Neal infiltrates the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party to gather intelligence on Chairman Fred Hampton. This film does so much right. The performances are all fantastic, director Shaka King masters whatever obstacle is thrown at him, and last this ending hits you like a ton of bricks harder than any ending probably will this year. But the second half of this movie feels rushed to get to that emotional ending that does take its time. Fred Hampton was 21 when he died and I’m sorry but Daniel Kaluuya looks old in his last moments. It was a little distracting. But I was buying his age up until that point. The movie does so much right but gets a little wrong here and there. This movie still rocks and moves at a brisk pace it is just there something missing. Maybe more time but even might have felt tagged on or forced. Still one of the best movies this year.
9/10 - DirectorDavid BrucknerStarsRebecca HallSarah GoldbergVondie Curtis-HallA widow begins to uncover her recently deceased husband's disturbing secrets.Immediately when it was over I knew it had to be in my top 10. I will try my best to keep it here because I am in love with this movie. A drama thriller that has everything I love about horror. It is not trying to be scary for sake of being scary. Randomness is not necessary for this film. Everything that happens in this happens for a reason and I can’t wait to get this movie on blu-ray just so I can watch this as much as I want. The ending as well has still stuck with me since I have seen the ending. It is a great Halloween movie to watch and I can’t to rewatch this movie again just so I can watch Rebecca Hall transcend this role into something I have never seen by her.
9/10 - DirectorAnders Thomas JensenStarsMads MikkelsenNikolaj Lie KaasAndrea Heick GadebergMarkus goes home to his teenage daughter, Mathilde, when his wife dies in a train crash. All appears to be a tragic accident until a mathematics geek, who was also a fellow passenger on the train, and his two colleagues show up.You may look at this poster and think this is Mads’ Taken. And even after reading the synopsis you may still see this as Mads’ Taken but both this Nobody and Nic Cage’s Pig are the anti Taken and John Wick. This is technically an action movie but this is so much more than that. Which is why this movie freaking rocks. First thing that separates it from your average man on revenge story is that it is funny. Nobody is also a comedy but this has mean dark comedy spin to it that it seems only something outside of America can toe that line of being darkly funny and touching. Along with Mads not being the only lead in this movie. The movie is not just about a husband and a father losing a love one but about the people who are trying to solve this horrible act themselves. Also guilt plays into this movie as a heart wrenching reflect on almost all of these characters. It really makes everything more enjoyable to watch these characters over come in it because you don’t want any of them to feel sad anymore. And a lot of these characters have a lot to forget about. So it is a rough and tough black action comedy that I feel isn’t getting much attention but it is without a doubt one of the best films of the year and I think it will stay in my top 10. Of course go into this blind but come out of it thanking yourself you did. A movie this good with a familiar premise like this doesn’t come around enough these days.
9/10 - DirectorReinaldo Marcus GreenStarsWill SmithAunjanue Ellis-TaylorJon BernthalA look at how tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams became who they are after the coaching from their father Richard.Again just more movies now shifting release dates which I don’t know if this will affect the 2020’s Oscars but this was suppose to come out this year.
- DirectorAdam McKayStarsLeonardo DiCaprioJennifer LawrenceMeryl StreepTwo low-level astronomers must go on a giant media tour to warn humankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet Earth.I love JLaw and I’m glad to see her back in action. I’m okay with her here as a lead and a nice little break is maybe what other people need. I certainly think she could be in a movie a year no problem but seeing what JGL has done in 2020 with hit after hit maybe a little break is what people need.
- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsBradley CooperCate BlanchettToni ColletteA grifter working his way up from low-ranking carnival worker to lauded psychic medium matches wits with a psychologist bent on exposing him.Damn. That was my first reaction after I saw this movie. Just pure damn. Because this ending sticks the landing with a bang. Which honestly I haven’t seen a movie that is over 2 hours that I want to watch again. But I’m not going to watch this again on HBOMAX or Hulu I’m waiting for the blu ray because I need to see this again. Hell I might just watch this again on HBOMAX that is how much respect and love I have for this movie. This is one hell of a movie that I think might get better after each viewing. I can’t wait to watch this movie again and even thinking about all the great scenes it had made me love this movie even more. It might actually sneak into my top ten with each viewing.
9/10 - DirectorSam LevinsonStarsJohn David WashingtonZendayaA director and his girlfriend's relationship is tested after they return home from his movie premiere and face each other's turmoil during one long night. It does look really good. And I like both actors including Sam Levison who is a pretty good director. And the black and white cinematography really does make me want to see this film more.- (Before I saw this movie.)
Z day has a third act monologue that is amazing. It floored me. I’ll be honest I like both these actors but I was hesitant to sit and watch only two of them for the whole movie. I have to say I’m glad I did. The only reason why that monologue works is because the first two acts are building blocks for that scene. Just the whole ending won me over. I love the last shot and the unfolding of the argument is handled so well that it captivated me to keep watching. I looked at my phone once while this was playing and put it back down immediately. I honestly didn’t think I would like this much but I did. As for awards chances in the 2021 Oscars, it did get shut out at the globes which the reason why this film was shown so early was for this film to get nominations. But sadly not Globes or SAG nominated this film. I can see the Oscars maybe, maybe nominate Zendaya but it’s looking less likely. But I’m going to count this as a 2021 film I mean I guess I have no other choice. So both Zendaya and John David Washington will be among the top best performances of 2021. Along with Sam Levinson for directing and writing to me.
9/10 - DirectorFlorian ZellerStarsAnthony HopkinsOlivia ColmanMark GatissA man refuses all assistance from his daughter as he ages. As he tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind and even the fabric of his reality.I am counting it has a 2021 movie but anyway just like Nomadland and Judas and the Black Messiah this does deserve to be nominated for best picture. I have no complaints for it being there or if it took any other films spot. But I still think if this film which takes place all in one flat, for the most part, can get nominated for categories like: picture, editing, acting, and screenplay they maybe One Night in Miami should have gotten more love. Nevertheless this movie is terrific and terrifying in the best way possible for its depiction of someone getting sick. I mean the movie never states what Anthony medically is diagnosed with but we clearly see him getting ill. It is not a pleasant watch but it is something important everyone should watch because this is as raw and real and close without actually experiencing something like this in person. Which I don’t wish on anyone.
9/10 - DirectorJeymes SamuelStarsJonathan MajorsZazie BeetzRJ CylerWhen an outlaw discovers his enemy is being released from prison, he reunites his gang to seek revenge.
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsMatt DamonAdam DriverJodie ComerThe Knight Jean de Carrouges must settle the dispute over his wife Marguerite by challenging his former friend to a duel to the death.I’m still catching up on movies I missed last year and I’m seriously kicking myself for not seeing this in the theater. This movie is awesome.
9/10 - DirectorJared BushByron HowardCharise Castro SmithStarsStephanie BeatrizMaría Cecilia BoteroJohn LeguizamoA Colombian teenage girl has to face the frustration of being the only member of her family without magical powers.
- DirectorDestin Daniel CrettonStarsSimu LiuAwkwafinaTony Leung Chiu-waiShang-Chi, the master of weaponry-based Kung Fu, is forced to confront his past after being drawn into the Ten Rings organization.Upon further views of the movie I realize just how good this movie is. The second half has divided a lot of people into thinking it is not that good. But I truly believe this is one of the better Marvel movies with the second best villain they have introduced. Killmonger is a close second he might even be tied for second. But no one does beat Thanos.
9/10 - DirectorJoe CarnahanStarsGerard ButlerFrank GrilloAlexis LouderOn the run from a lethal assassin, a wily con artist devises a scheme to hide out inside a small-town police station-but when the hitman turns up at the precinct, an unsuspecting rookie cop finds herself caught in the crosshairs. It’s awesome. But I can JC wanting to rework this movie to his own liking. I follow both him and Frank Grillo on their social media accounts and it seems that they are not that happy at how this was released. For me tho I had a blast. I said this when he made Smokin’ Aces, I said this when he made The Grey, and I definitely said this when he made Boss Level but he makes the movies I wish I can make. These character driven action films that have the slam bang action set pieces but at the same time have characters that make you care and want to see them to live. The one scene that sold it for me is when Alexis Louder is changing the new passcode and when Lamb is shooting at her like a mad man that tension and creativity is so damn refreshing to see. Damn that was a bad ass scene. This and The Night House are two of my favorite movies I have seen this year.
9/10 - DirectorChloé ZhaoStarsFrances McDormandDavid StrathairnLinda MayA woman in her sixties, after losing everything in the Great Recession, embarks on a journey through the American West, living as a van-dwelling modern-day nomad.I guess I do have to count this as a 2021 movie but screw it this whole award season has fucked everything up. No matter what this movie came out in it is an amazing and interesting look on how people can cope with living. Not just after tragedy but just tired of how this life has beaten us down. Not everyone does this because they don’t have anyone look at David a character who has a son who loves him and even gives a place to stay. Even tho I have to say some topics are a little half baked but even at an hour and 40 minutes I never felt this movie drag. Even tho a lot of people may call this movie boring I never did. I fell in love with movie with more and more time passes. What totally won me over is that last conversation this movie has about accepting lost and moving on without that person you love. God damn this movie hits hard.
9/10 - DirectorLeigh JaniakStarsSadie SinkEmily RuddRyan SimpkinsShadyside, 1978. School's out for summer and the activities at Camp Nightwing are about to begin. But when another Shadysider is possessed with the urge to kill, the fun in the sun becomes a gruesome fight for survival.Way better than the first one. I mean I give that film barley a 7. But this, I freaking love this one. I’m a huge horror fan and one of my favorite sub genres in horror are slashers. So I like that aspect from the first one but this one kicks it up a notch. From the build up of no one even getting killed in the first 45 minutes to actually setting up these characters so when shit hits the fan and trust me it does man does this film kick into high gear. It has an energy that is both relentless and pulse pounding something that has been missing from the horror genre. This one doesn’t try to shoe horn in any type of romance. I mean yeah it kinda does with Sadie Sink and Ted Sutherland but it is quick enough that it never brings down the movie. But holy crap does Sadie Sink kill it in this movie. She is a revelation that truly proves she might become the best actor to come out of Stranger Things. And she wasn’t even in the first season. But here she is awesome. Sure she is kinda playing a similar character Max. But I honestly felt more for her here. The relationship she has with her sister Cindy is cliche but both of the actresses do a great job that it never annoyed me. It is the female friendship between Cindy and Alice that really sink its hooks into me. So a majority of their screen time consist of them being trapped underground. So yeah you can see where it is going but it works. Man just everything clicked for me and that is the one benefit I can say that this film holds over the previous film. Nothing felt forced or not needed and I just love that this one open the story to really connect the curse that is plaguing this town. It just adds more weight to the rivalry between the two towns and it makes everything just that much more interesting to watch. I have been craving for a good horror film and to me this fixed that. It has everything I love about horror slasher movies that characters I like, a story that is expansive to latch onto, and it does not skip out on the kills. This thing is freaking brutal and I love it.
9/10 - DirectorMichael SarnoskiStarsNicolas CageAlex WolffAdam ArkinA truffle hunter who lives alone in the Oregon wilderness must return to his past in Portland in search of his beloved foraging pig after she is kidnapped.Brilliant melancholy of a movie. It’s weird to think that this movie was over 2 hours long and it was cut down to under 90 minutes without credits. But the movie does move brilliantly that it feels like a rollercoaster ride even if nothing truly exciting happens. It may look like your average revenge flick, and Nic Cage has done a crap ton of those movies before. However this isn’t a paycheck gig hell this movie was so low budget that they had no reshoots and had to make sure to get everything right the first time around. Which may be a default in the movie because it does feel very first time directory but that is why you have great actors here to balance out the great writing here. Yeah the writing not just from a dialogue perspective, it is also the three act structure to keep the movie fresh as the cooking is in this movie. Nic Cage is the best he has ever been along with Alex Wolff being just as good here along with giving his best performance. It is just a movie that is simple and didn’t need to be a tv show or any longer than it needs to be. No need for a sequel or anything like that. It accomplishes everything that it set to do and did it in a way that made me as an audience member enjoying the ride it took me on. Even tho it does have moments of pure melancholy that it is warranted and not just thrown in there just for the sake of it.
9/10 - DirectorEdgar WrightStarsThomasin McKenzieAnya Taylor-JoyMatt SmithAspiring fashion designer Eloise is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s, where she encounters dazzling wannabe singer Sandie. But the glamour is not as it seems, and the dreams of the past crack and splinter into something darker.Edgar Wright is one of my favorite directors and it is a shame we didn’t get to see this film in 2020. But 2021 is looking kinda better. I really hope this will be awesome. October is a good date for this because this is a major turn in direction for Wright so I can’t freaking wait.
- DirectorTommy WirkolaStarsNoomi RapaceAksel HennieAtle AntonsenA dysfunctional couple head to a remote cabin to reconnect, but each has intentions to kill the other. Before they can carry out their plans, unexpected visitors arrive and they face a greater danger.
- DirectorDon HallCarlos López EstradaPaul BriggsStarsKelly Marie TranAwkwafinaGemma ChanIn a realm known as Kumandra, a re-imagined Earth inhabited by an ancient civilization, a warrior named Raya is determined to find the last dragon. What an amazing film. Not just an animation film, an action film, or even a fantasy film but an overall great movie. It has beat for beat other similarities from other properties and yes predictable in some parts, but holy crap this has been missing in a lot of recent films. A three act structure that moves quickly and entertaining enough for everyone to enjoy. Characters that matter and are not there just to serve as the butt of the joke, but an overall message I can see generations can get behind. It is a lot of fun to be had here and it is as important and beautiful as any animation film has come across in recent memory. Stories like this and especially films like this scream out that animation is not just for kids. Sure you do have you side kicks and your physical gags that can be amusing for younger audiences. But just like all great fantasy stories this hits on all cylinders. By giving you characters you actually want to succeed and support. Let me reiterate you want these characters to win. You want this story to continue. Most importantly you understand all the motivation so it comes off more organically with an ending that is really emotional that I didn’t see coming. Disney has been getting a lot shit lately, with the Mulan debacle, to it as a company, Star Wars, hell to even this being a $30 rental. But this didn’t feel like a studio mandate to hurry up and cash in on the Asian rise. It feels more respected in many ways certainly more than any other Disney film in the past. So I love it.
9/10 - DirectorLluís QuílezStarsJavier GutiérrezKarra ElejaldeLuis CallejoOn a lonely road, a prison transport is brutally assaulted. Martin, the policeman who was driving, survives and fortifies his position while the con men search for a way to finish him.We are all aware of subverting expectations. I mean it’s the one thing people want without actually wanting it. Because whenever a really good movie does i.e. The Last Zedi people complain the crap out of it. Anyhoe enough about that movie this movie is awesome. Kinda like last year’s also Spanish Netflix film The Platform, this is a smart, interesting, and truly captivating of a fun crime thriller. I like cold crime thrillers and this is one of the good ones because holy crap I felt the cold. Wind River, Fargo, and so on, this film is apart of that great list of movies. Half way through I thought it was just a fun little thriller. But then the last 20 minutes happened and I’m telling you it made a B level movie into an A territory. I think all the performances from the prisoners to the cops are all great and add more entertaining trying to figure their backstory which this movie gives you enough to keep your attention. You have your favorites and you can tell which ones are going to live and die but I’m telling you the journey to that place is worth it. You get a lot of the characters motivation which I have to say is missing in a lot modern films where characters do dumb stuff for no reason. Some characters are dumb but at the moment it adds more tension because this are not big name actors so you don’t know if all these people will live or die. This is a great ride that will keep you guessing throughout this film. Thrillers are easy to come by because they are so many of them. But good ones like this that have great characters, an interesting story, and thrills for any audience member who enjoys films that give you the thrill but also ones that hit you in the gut.
9/10 - DirectorJames GunnStarsMargot RobbieIdris ElbaJohn CenaSupervillains Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, Peacemaker, and a collection of nutty cons at Belle Reve prison join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X as they are dropped off at the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.DC’s year is 2021. Well I wrote that when Black Adam and The Batman were still coming out in 2021.
- DirectorMichael RiandaJeff RoweStarsAbbi JacobsonDanny McBrideMaya RudolphA quirky, dysfunctional family's road trip is upended when they find themselves in the middle of the robot apocalypse and suddenly become humanity's unlikeliest last hope. The negatives I have:
-let Katie be gay throughout the movie and stop queer baiting.
-why does the son sound like a grown ass man. Plus he has a love interest and it doesn’t help that she does sound like a child, so you have a grown ass sounding kid voiced by an adult going after a young child who sounds like a child.
-if Maya Rudolph is black and it looks like she is voicing a black character then shouldn’t that reflect in her kids.
This is a fast pace hilarious family movie that I haven’t seen since the last Lord & Miller Sony Animated movie. The mall fight scene has to be my favorite part of the movie.
And that emotional tear jerker of an ending that yeah I saw coming from a mile away but it still hit in the feels.
8.5/10 - DirectorZack SnyderStarsDave BautistaElla PurnellAna de la RegueraFollowing a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.Yes, yes, yes, YES! It’s coming out this year for the summer and I can’t f-ing wait. Yes I’m huge Synder fan and this looks awesome. I also think of the story outside the movie. Zack dealing with his family issue and then after the WB fiasco to Netflix basically letting him do his thing. I don’t know if he will go into it but I find uplifting for someone who has been down to see someone excel in making a film their way. Plus as selfish reason my homeboy Raul Castillo who is not my home boy looks f-ing insane in this movie. The blonde locks and him screaming while shooting that gun looks awesome.-before I saw the movie.
I love Zack’s Dawn of the Dead. Almost every chance I get I put it on and watch it. I love the characters the story the action all of it. It is so damn interesting to see tho just how much his films have developed over time. Trust me this is not what you think.
They are some real surprises like jaw on the floor surprises that you may not see coming. Like holy crap this movie goes for the jugular and doesn’t stop. At first it is your usual we are putting together a team movie. So it is a heist movie mixed in with the zombie genre. But even before the story sets stage I have input the incredible work behind the camera first.
Zack Synder said that this was his smallest crew he worked with, and most of the shots are done by himself. I saw this in a theater mainly because I had to see this movie and support someone like him. But he doesn’t disappoint because holy crap I love how he shoots the movie because as a horror lover this movie is pretty damn scary. It’s also really frightening. Yeah, you have slow motion in the movie but not over done. I thought it worked it the scenes it was in. Some moments Zack just let the scene play out and it happens so fast that your brain can’t even cope what the hell just happened. So as a horror movie it works. I got scared more than a couple of times in the movie.
But the action. Hell yes. First off these are cool characters. Maybe not the most well developed characters but wow they are cool. Mist notably- Samantha Win which I hope you will be hearing her name a lot. Because she is a show stealer. And a pretty darn good actress. No just a damn good actor who can handle her own on screen with other professionals around her. She’s great I want to she more from her. Which brings up another reason why Zack is a bad ass. How many other directors will cast a stunt actor in a role like this. Like legit she has a good meaty role and she doesn’t fail. Every scene she is in just adds more confident that we should be taking stunt actors and performers more seriously. Others include people like Omari Hardwick who I have been shouting from the rooftop to give this man some work. And again here he does not disappoint. And where his character goes just put a huge smile on my face. Nora Arnezeder may not have a huge action set piece but she has something different. A back story that I really want to see. Like honestly Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, and Ana de la Reguera that trio story is done. But Nora I want to see a prequel with her character because of what they set up with her is so damn fascinating that I love it. She is the one character that I wanted more from. Of course I love my boy Raúl Castillo and a nice introduction to Matthias Schweighöfer who will be getting that prequel. Even Tig Notaro who almost steals this whole damn show adds a lot with her character.
In the end a real nice balance of action and horror. Which has been missing a lot lately. So it was so damn nice to see a change of pace in a genre that has been lacking some verity. Not to say there hasn’t been original horror movies but that horror action genre is almost non existent at this point. But this ups the ante to a level where this should be the standard. I love it.
9/10 - DirectorSara ColangeloStarsMichael KeatonAmy RyanStanley TucciAn attorney in Washington D.C. battles against cynicism, bureaucracy and politics to help the victims of 9/11.
- DirectorBo BurnhamStarsBo BurnhamA musical comedy special shot and performed by Bo Burnham, alone, over the course of a very unusual year. This is honestly just insane. It is almost purposelessly to review because this special really wears the message on its sleeve. This special isn’t trying to be anything other than Bo Burnham and his thoughts. So don’t take it seriously like most of his work. Which is why the second to last song hits so well. But honestly like what is the point of even reviewing this. What I can say is this inspired me to do something that I love. And do it because it is something that I want to do. No matter the outcome both positive and negative I have to at least try. So I can at least say thank you for that.
9/10 - DirectorJoe PennaStarsAnna KendrickDaniel Dae KimShamier AndersonA three-person crew on a mission to Mars faces an impossible choice when an unplanned passenger jeopardizes the lives of everyone on board.I can honestly say that this is Anna Kendrick’s best performance to date. Loved her. She is kinda playing that same enthusiastic happy go lucky sweet person that is the audience but here she has many more layers behind her character that I haven’t seen from her in other movies. She is amazing.
Aside from her the rest of the cast gives a great performance. Shamier Anderson who gives a great cry face without actually crying got me a couple of times. Toni Collete never disappoints but she is not the lead of the film and she plays your typical captain of a crew who has to make tough decisions but she does come off really well and sells her scenes with the others. Last their is Daniel Dae Kim who surprised me here at how good he is. While I never watched him on tv and the movies he has been in have him play small parts his performance here is nothing sort of great. Honestly the more I think about his position and where he is coming from the more I’m liking his character.
Last onto the director. Joe Penna who made his directorial debut with 2018’s Arctic, really shines here by making sure the movie is two steps ahead its audience. While not trying to overly explain itself or even undersell the dyer situation this crew finds itself. Little things here and there are presented throughout to make sure you understand just how important it comes up later in the movie.
While yes the ending (no spoilers) does stop short of giving the audience something satisfying to take away from the movie I found it more melancholy which honestly worked out best for this movie. Because it leads whoever is watching a different path on realizing what movie this truly is. You can still take away a lot from this movie and not feel like you have wasted your time. I really enjoyed it and found it riveting to say the least.
Also the last 30 minutes have been the most exciting ending to a movie I have seen in a while.

Honestly if you are not into it within the first 10-15 minutes then yeah I would recommend to at least stay and watch till the end. Because when this shit hits maximum overdrive it lifts off like nothing I have seen in a long time. WB may not be the best studio but I’m glad they gave James Wan a lot of money to do something he really wanted to do. I’m glad I stuck with it because it at least kept my attention until that bombshell dropped which is something I love to see in a movie. It has some awesome kills here that I did flinch at which is so unheard of because I love blood and gore in my horror movies but this is insane. Again if you are not into it I understand but this is my shit.

At the same time tho the more I hear these millionaires complain that their film won’t play in theaters not because it has to save theaters but they know they will not gross the same amount of money as it would if it release only in theaters. But why can’t we have both I don’t understand it still will play in theaters but us consumers don’t want to risk our lives. I just got over my own Covid sickness and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. So I’m not saying screw movie theaters but instead screw these Denis V, and Legendary saying we need our film on the big screen. Stop with these lies they just want money. Which hey then don’t release any more trailers or set photos or anything and push this film back next year. And if it gets release next year then let it bomb. But I still love Denis V. And this cast is amazing but whatever I’ll still can’t wait for this film cause it looks awesome.

The first hour may not be as exciting as it should be because I myself wasn’t fully engaged into the story yet. But after that first hour this thing gets into hyper speed and blasts off like a rocket. The action is shot really well, the space battles are some of the best I have ever seen, it is a smart science fiction film that doesn’t try to over explain everything, and the story itself really pulls no punches. This movie is dark in some places and people die. I mean the story is about this organization trying to kill this little girl. It is exactly the type of film I love to watch and have a good time with. O yeah so glad to see so much talent on screen do an incredible job with some killer performances. Just cool characters. Some straight out of a Guy Ritchie movie which is more than I can ask for.

Idk if that is a spoiler but whatever. Just like that cheesy line this movie does have a lot of cheesy moments where it is edited pretty poorly in some scenes that took me out of it. Well that is all the complaints I have.
Holy crap this movie is so good. I really liked it. Even after a day of seeing it I kinda want to say that it is better than A Quiet Place Part 2. But this movie has an incredible and by incredible I mean a stunning and striking lead performance in Emma Stone. Holy shit she is by far the best thing in this movie. Emma Thompson of course is a great counter to what Emma is doing here. But after all these years of of seeing Emma Stone in many projects never before has she hit a home run like this. Thompson can do this performance in her sleep but she can’t help bring that British dryness that is so present in this type of role. And yeah some other actress could have made it into a farce but that is why Thompson is so good at what she does.
I can’t stress enough by saying when the punk rock music starts to play my head was rocking, my shoulders were shifting, whatever this movie was on I had some as well. O yeah I love the ending line and the way Emma made her eyes. Gosh she is so good here. It is a little predictable and a lot of convinces started to happen. And yeah things happen for plot reason. Like really the day of all days Emma Thompson shows up just happens to be the day Emma Stone gets drunk and makes a fabulous dress in the window so everyone can see. It is far fetch but holy crap was I in love with this movie. I had a blast and honestly I wasn’t really thinking a lot about the plot holes or coincidences. So I really liked it.
8/10 - DirectorGuy RitchieStarsJason StathamHolt McCallanyJosh HartnettA mysteriously stoic character is hired as a security guard by a cash truck company responsible for transporting a lot of money around Los Angeles each week.It was nice just to escape and see a film with some hard ass action scenes and a story that I think is well developed enough for you to care about the action going on screen. Also the Stathantor honestly has never been better. He does elevate the material because he plays his character so straight that you know he is going to break and you do not want to be anywhere near him when that happens. The first half is just written pretty bad and I wish some of the supporting actors had a little more time to shine but when they do it is mainly dialogue to suit the narrative, never for the sake of getting to know these people. Only Jeffery Donavon is when you kinda get a sense of who he is outside of the narrative to actually care about him. But this is the Jason Statham show and he does not disappoint here. I had a blast.

I’m not a huge fan of the old movies so I couldn’t care less about the Easter eggs or anything like that but I’m a huge fan of what is presented in front of me. I laughed more than expected and had more fun than any of the other movies. McKenna Grace is without a doubt the reason why this movie works. It has to be the other actors tho that I think also stepped up their A game. Paul Rudd is great as always. Carrie Coon I have always love to watch and she is playing your usual concern mom but I mean she is a great actress so she can do anything. Logan Kim and Celeste O’Connor are great even tho we may not see them in anything in the near future. Finn Wolfhard here is pretty good as well.
Can’t stress enough how great McKenna Grace is here and I hope either they want to continue with this franchise is to keep her for what next installment because that will be the reason I will see the next film.

How undocumented immigrants have to go thur just to understand what it means to live like everyone else. It is amazing how a film that has a blanket of a fun musical, updates a story but feel timeless with its message that if any kid who fears of not reaching their full potential can watch this and see them represented on screen. That is where the movie has a heart and it never fails or is lost on myself to never consider that what I’m watching isn’t well made. But all of this came from after I watch the movie. The first half is okay but after a certain music number that is when I knew I was watching something special. It was a lot of fun and even tho I didn’t see it in a theater I still had a great time watching a fresh new take on a musical because even tho I’m not a huge fan of musicals. Even I can say that at least this doesn’t feel like a stage play and an actual movie. Which is a high praise when it comes to musicals.

It hasn’t been getting a lot of good reviews. But for me I was moved by this emotional story dealing with second chances to not let anyone decide what your actions dictate who you are. JT is really good here. But also surprisingly tho the script is also very emotional that it did get a tear out of my eye. It is not over the top with it’s what seems to be a cliche story but it still has enough here to make anyone enjoy this movie. This is what Hillbilly Elegy wishes it had done. No narration which is a good choice because it would have been too corny and no big speech about how important it is to be a good person. Which it is true. However, this movie is not about beating your head in with a message it is a very entertaining drama that yes you may have seen before but with some excellent performances, some good writing, and okay direction it did put a smile on my face at the end. Along with any film to make me cry it gets my recommendation to watch. (Actual review)
8/10 - DirectorIlya NaishullerStarsBob OdenkirkAleksey SerebryakovConnie NielsenA docile family man slowly reveals his true character after his house gets burgled by two petty thieves, which, coincidentally, leads him into a bloody war with a Russian crime boss.Believe or not this is my most anticipated film of 2021. Kind of. Like most people Bob Odenkirk is just flat out an amazing actor. Anyone who even watches at least one episode of Better Call Saul can tell you that. But I’m so excited to see him as a lead in an action film. I also have faith in director Ilya Naishuller from Hardcore Henry to give us something special and I’m looking forward for this movie.- Before seeing it.
First movie back in theater and it couldn’t have been a better choice. It may not be the home run I was expecting but it still delivers on laughs and some awesome action scenes. Just a couple of things tho I wish it was a little more gory basing Hardcore Henry was extremely gory. Also director Ilya Naishuller who has directed music videos before for his band really shows here. I don’t mind if a movie gets repetitive with action scenes and feels like a video game but even here I have to say it did feel like a video game mixed with a music video.
Aside from that this is an incredibly entertaining ride that I was having so much fun with. Saul Goodman is proving that Bob Odenkirk should be cast in more movies because he is flat out an outstanding choice for the lead here. He really does put in the time to seem like a regular guy so when his first fight scene happened and it doesn’t have any music or quick cuts I knew it was going to be good. That’s the best fight in the whole movie.
So if they do plan on doing more of these than I have to say I would be open to see where this story would continue.
8/10 - DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsTom HollandCiara BravoJack ReynorCherry drifts from college dropout to army medic in Iraq - anchored only by his true love, Emily. But after returning from the war with PTSD, his life spirals into drugs and crime as he struggles to find his place in the world. So this will get a 2021 release but it is a play for the 2021 Oscars that has 2020 films so does this mean this is a 2020 film which again why did the Academy push back like that. We had a hole throughout November and December so why couldn’t these film come out during those time. Same thing with Malcom and Marie and Judas and the Black Messiah. But I think you can count these as 2021 movies but it is just very weird.- Before I saw the movie.
Before I get into each part or chapters of the film. Let me just say, I have seen bad movies. I have seen badly written movies, badly acted movies, and boring movies. This is no where near any of those things. Sure yes it is crowded and some chapters are not as good as the other. But I am no where near a person who gives a movie a pass because of who is in it, but even with its problems I still can enjoy and take away a lot of what this movie has to offer. Let’s break this shit down.
Prologue: The shortest because all it is, is a scene later on in the movie to try to say how did we get here.
Chapter 1: Student. It is a development story between him and his future wife, Emily, played here by Ciara Bravo. It kicks the story off so I understand for it being so visual because it has to grab your attention and bring you into what is going to happen throughout the rest of the movie. The chemistry between the two are really believable for how young they are you buy into just how love is between them and why Tom’s character is so heartbroken over their break up.
Chapter 2: Solider. It’s the first half of Full Metal Jacket. The frame ratio is shrunk to make you feel claustrophobic almost like there is nowhere to run. You are stuck here with these men, well the point the movie is trying to make is how young these men are who put into this position and none of them are prepared to what is to come. Which makes the next chapter so predictable.
Chapter 3: Cherry. These two chapters are probably the least interesting because it is a retread of Full Metal Jacket just told in a different type of lens. It is more flashy but where you end of is the same story that ultimately goes exactly where you think it is going. I don’t want to spoil it but these two chapters don’t do anything you haven’t seen before it is just a showcase of how visually stunning this movie can get.
Chapter 4: Home. Now to me, chapter 4 & 5 is where this movie picks up and gets my blood pumping. Because it made me care. We see both Tom and Emily put through the ringer of drug abuse and it does not shy away from it. Yes it still is very flashy and style over substance but I think it at least to me it’s gets more interesting to watch. It may be a chore for some people to sit through but I was impressed of the ups and down these two went through. It made at least to me why the parts of our lead character life matter.
Chapter 5: Thief. My favorite part of the movie. Bank heists are some of my favorite type of movies. And as long as you can make someone sympathetic and make you route for the robber to me you have done your job. I just saw another bank robbery movie where the movie makes you sympathetic of what happened to the robbers and you just go I don’t care for even the slightest. The opposite is here. It is also really funny and sweet in a very messed up kind of way that I just love watching.
Epilogue: It is just a very emotional music video where it is a time lapse to catch up and end the movie on a high note. It almost succeeds but the movie took me on such a roller coaster ride that I ultimately fell for this movie.
Again it is not perfect but it is ambitious and some subject matters it does not shy away from the true horror of what so many other will shy away from.
8/10 - DirectorJohn KrasinskiStarsEmily BluntMillicent SimmondsCillian MurphyFollowing the events at home, the Abbott family now face the terrors of the outside world. Forced to venture into the unknown, they realize the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats lurking beyond the sand path. The prologue for this movie where we see Day One when the monsters attack is something to behold. The first trailer doesn’t spoil anything. If you think the trailer shows too much trust me it doesn’t. But when I say that opening is some of the best directing, writing, acting, and overall just a thrill ride of putting you in the seat of these characters it more than makes up any problems I had with the first one. I love the opening and even when I had problems after the opening 10-15 minutes at least the movie keeps you guessing to what will happen next.
If I can compare this to a video game franchise I would compare the first Quiet Place to RE7 and A Quiet Place part 2 to Resident Evil Village. Both first installments established great concepts in horror/suspense and it took its time to develop enough story for you to care. Then by the third act that is when shit hits the fan and we watch a thriller take place. Then we move on to the sequel and after a opening that sets the tone it is from there that it is a non stop thrill ride.
Just like Resident Evil Village there is more action in this one. Kinda spoilers but they kill more than one monster in this movie. But it is exciting enough for you to enjoy both properties even tho I had major problems with A Quiet Place part 2.
I don’t love this movie. And even on rewatches of the first one I realize I’m not in love with that one either. It also had a great opening. But as a character study of Jim and his family that first one well established them enough for me to care if they live. So when I tell you this feels like a bridge movie to get to one movie from the other it kinda does. It sucks to say that but I honestly feel like this part 2 is just a bridge for part 3. Now I don’t even know if Abbott family will even be in next movie but it certainly seems like that. So that was a little disappointing.
But let’s move on to the family. Emily Blunt yes can prove she can do no wrong and she is the anchor holding everything together. Cillian Murphy shows up and he is at first someone who you understand why he is like the way he is. But as the movie progresses he really stepped up to the plate and deliver some incredible acting chops. And there is a Last of Us type scene where he goes full on Joel. But the two who are this movie who should be getting more work just off of one scene in this movie are the two young child actors. The first is Noah Jupe who does the most ridiculous things you can do in a movie like this, but I do like his arc. And he is so talented and gifted that his acting abilities are off the charts amazing. But for my money the best performance in this movie is yeah Millicent Simmmonds. She stole the show in the first movie and she is stealing the show here. No spoilers but her arc and last scene in the movie is a total bad ass scene that I wanted to jump up in there air and say hell yeah. I just realized if they want to make a Life is Strange into a movie or tv show get her to play Max.
Overall John Krasinski has proved that his talents behind the camera are not just limited to directing. He is the sole screenplay writer and yes it is not a dialogue heavy film every once and a while he will write a scene where a character has to prove of what they are willing to do in order to survive. And for me as a post apocalyptic movie is good enough for me to care about the characters. It is just I wish this movie had a stronger third act and gotten to that place in a more organically fashion than what we gotten.
8/10 it’s good. But it falls short in the one place that good make this movie great. - DirectorAaron SorkinStarsNicole KidmanJavier BardemJ.K. SimmonsFollows Lucy and Desi as they face a crisis that could end their careers--and another that could end their marriage. Not perfect but it is a delightful film to see two wonderful performances like you never seen before. Kidman and Bardem are beyond fun playing these characters. But I wish this was just a better well made film because the performances brought their A game. Maybe not Oscar nominated performances because I can think 3 other nominees that would fill their spots. As for the movie it is nice to see how a tv show in the 50’s was made especially when you had an unstoppable force like Ball to be front and center. Which is my favorite part for the movie. It is just a bland movie to look at and like I said aside from the performances and little bits of the story nothing much here to rave about.
7.5/10 - DirectorRicky StaubStarsIdris ElbaCaleb McLaughlinLorraine ToussaintSent to live with his estranged father for the summer, a rebellious teen finds kinship in a tight-knit Philadelphia community of Black cowboys. The best type of dramas don’t wrap everything up at the end with a nice happy bow. This isn’t that movie. It feels real with the added benefit of having actual Fletcher Street Rider. This movie has stars like Idris Elba, Method Man, and others to note. But the real joy is seeing the real people like Jamil Prattis “Paris” and even Ivannah Mercedes “Esha” who while they don’t have huge roles they make enough of an impact to make sure you understand why anyone would do this. Quite like Nomadland it’s the real people who live day and day at these places to make it feel more accepted. The movie has some inconsistencies with some cliches that are very noticeable. But I thought the most impressive aspects of the film are dealing with Caleb McLaughlin arc of becoming a better human being with the help of a hard as nails father. Which yes we have seen before in a ton of other coming of age dramas. His encounters with a great actor like Jharrel Jerome make those scenes so much better. Because you do get the sense his character wasn’t always this way but how your environment and your own ambitions can get in the way of what is best for you. And that is what a lot of our fathers are trying to teach us. Like I said the movie doesn’t hit all the marks but I think it hits enough to make an impression of you take the time to watch a coming of age story with a different setting quite like the most recent coming of age movies out there.
8/10 - DirectorJ BlakesonStarsRosamund PikePeter DinklageEiza GonzálezA crooked legal guardian who drains the savings of her elderly wards meets her match when a woman she tries to swindle turns out to be more than she first appears.I’m not saying if you can’t attach yourself to this character then you are a misogynist but this movie is in the same vein as something like Nightcrawler. And we definitely don’t have a problem with that movie. I also got to say this movie has the balls to do what promising young woman failed to do at the end. Rosamund Pike is more than capable to give a good performance but this is perfect casting to a point where I can’t see anyone playing a character like this. She is so damn good i feel like she should be in the conversation with the top 5 best actress not just this award season but if given more roles she could take in that top 5 spot. She is remarkably perfect as this character along it is amazing to watch her win in this movie where a lot of movies don’t let the villain be the hero. It is an awesome ride. But yes I can understand if you couldn’t get involved in this movie. But I found it awesome.
8/10 - DirectorNatalie MoralesStarsKuhoo VermaVictoria MorolesMichael ProvostFollows a straight-laced high school student and her slacker best friend who, after a regrettable first sexual encounter, have 24 hours to hunt down a Plan B pill in America's heartland.Way better than last year’s Unpregnant on HBOMax. And I kinda hate to say it but while it may not be better film than Booksmart I have to say it might be funnier. I honestly laughed so much at this film. I reference those two films because it is a comedy duo of females, even unpreganant tried to have some diversity but Barbie Ferreira I wouldn’t count as Latina. But Victoria Moroles as Lupe is the right type of representation Latinos should be earning for. First they mention multiple times that she is Mexican and showcase how religion in a Mexican house hold is very present. That along with multiple white people continuing to mention how they want a piece of that taco. Which is something Latinas have been dealing for a long time. Plus Lupe is a great friend. She is so funny that she had me holding my stomach of laughing so hard. I’m so glad they made her the slacker best friend instead of the one looking for the Plan B. She has so much to her character and it was such a joy to see a Latina character so front and center that stands by her friend and she was not annoying.
Onto the actual lead of the movie Kuhoo Verma who plays Sunny. The girl who is the center of needing the Plan B. But she is also so great here. She has a great number of laughs here as yeah it is typical to have the Southeast Asian character have strict a parent who focuses on school. But even here her race is mentioned but listen I like to hear these characters be proud of who they are. Because that’s how real people talk. The whole Indian supremacy running bit is hilarious. So she is great. And of course there is a drug trip and she is totally game for the challenge.
And some of the guys (not all) are actually pretty understanding and good people. Where as Unpregant had no likable male characters. And Hunter says a line about having an older sister which makes sense as why he is the way he is. Compared to the teaching of sex Ed.
Now onto the director herself. Natalie Morales who I have been a huge fan of here knocks this shit out of the park. The script here is wildly funny and even tho yes you have seen this before. Blockers, Booksmart, and Unpregant are here but this stands out for being fresh even tho it still covers a lot of cliches you see in these types of movies.
The more I talk about this movie the more I like it. Even my home boy Monty is so funny in this. But I really like it and it is an enjoyable enough comedy for everyone to enjoy.
7.5/10 but I can see it going up to an 8. - DirectorChris SmithStarsMatthew ModineRoger RignackJillian PetersonReenactments drive this documentary investigating the mastermind behind a scam to sneak the kids of rich and famous families into top US universities. With so many movies hitting Netflix they really have diversified their portfolio to be different from the rest. And this is a great example to take different routes in making a documentary. This is all things that even some great narrative movies have accomplished. It is a crime drama, a whistleblower to all of these elite colleges who are legit oblivious to what was happening in front of them, and even more fascinating it is also a thriller. Seriously I love the reenactment format they choose for this documentary because it made it that much more fascinating to see they did they really say all of this. Apparently all of this happened which just to goes to show you that people will say anything when they don’t know they are being recorded. At an hour and a half this is a great documentary to touch on something tho I think it is 45% in fault of the parents and the rest is the colleges. These places should know better. White boy Rick here just knows how to play the game. Don’t hate the player hate the game.
8/10 - DirectorJane CampionStarsBenedict CumberbatchKirsten DunstJesse PlemonsCharismatic rancher Phil Burbank inspires fear and awe in those around him. When his brother brings home a new wife and her son, Phil torments them until he finds himself exposed to the possibility of love. It’s pretty good. I saw this right after another TIFF premiere The Guilty and while this is a better made film, I found that movie more enjoyable than this one. Until the third act which does push this to be here on my list. On its surface it seems to be a cold and ruthless story but after some time I feel like this movie does have more to say that what I initially thought. First the performances are phenomenal. This is Benedict Cumberbatch best performance to date. This is his movie because while this does have Todd and Mary Jane in the movie they are not the central focus of the film. Even Nightcrawler in the first half doesn’t come in his own until the second half of the movie. Which for me that interaction between Strange and Nightcrawler is what makes this movie 20x more interesting and engaging. But without the first half being so cold I don’t think it would have designated the same way. Some movies work like that. So the movie works as a way to not be so heavy handed with its theme and overall message that might come across corny or even forced. So I appreciate a movie that is actually working its way towards certain themes about love and acceptance rather than having that be resolved in the first 30 minutes. The movie also isn’t fair because while some of the messages about forgiveness are warranted it does come at a price. But it is not overly dramatic about it which is why I can see a ton of critics loving the crap out of this movie and they have. It does have some great performances, incredible cinematography that comes smashing in with some beautiful landscapes but it has meaning by the third act that made me fully engage like the rest of the movie didn’t. But again I can’t fully fault the movie for that because I can’t see myself liking this movie at the same level as I do now if it wasn’t for that first act.
8/10 - DirectorLeigh JaniakStarsKiana MadeiraAshley ZukermanGillian JacobsThe origins of Sarah Fier's curse are finally revealed as history comes full circle on a night that changes the lives of Shadysiders forever.Only 1994 won’t be on this list but it should be mentioned that this trilogy is some of the best entertainment I can ask for out of my love for horror movies. And 1666 is right up my alley. Up until they leave 1666. Nevertheless these movies are fun as hell and these people really need to stop taking this shit so damn serious. I mean I have seen some angry comments towards these movies and I honestly can’t see what they are getting mad at. I love the relationship between Sarah and Hannah here more than the relationship set up in 1994. But I still had a great time with this trilogy and I don’t regret watching any of these.
7.5/10 - DirectorNate ParkerStarsNate ParkerOmari HardwickBeau KnappA Marine veteran working as a school janitor tries to mend his relationship with his son after a divorce. When his son is killed by a police officer found innocent without standing trial, he takes matters into his own hands.Listen I don’t condone anything Nate Parker has done. Even back in 2016 when Birth of a Nation came out his handling of the situation with interviews. Listen I know people will be like separate the art from the artist but after seeing Promising Young Woman which beat for beat is telling the Nate Parker story even his “redemption” continuing his life with what happened in his rear view while others never forget. Do you see the parallels between what happened in real life reflected in this film. This movie however is trying to say something important and I’m actually glad he is coming at it swinging. Seriously this is an angry film in a good way because it backs up what it is trying to say. I’ll keep it simple the movie is good. The directing and writing by Parker himself is I would say is the strongest effort in the film. Especially the writing to me. I really like the writing and how the story unfolds. You can tell all actors are giving it all while I do have to say some of cops are a little over the top. I don’t know if that was intentional but these mother f-ers are screaming half their lines. But with the situation they are in I can understand. Honestly the story did grab me and refused to let go. Which for an hour and 25 minutes it was pretty enticing to see how far a father will go to get justice for his son. The other cast members like Omari Hardwick I really wished he had more screen time because he has a really tragic storyline which fits along well with what is going on in this movie. Something I need to point out is that this film is not pandering to one side. I know some might look at this story and think it is one sided, along with the fact that Spike Lee is producing this film. But this provides both sides. I’m not kidding they have both cops and non police officers having conversations back and forth about the brutality police have been doing for decades. It says yes a cop job is hard. Which I have to say the BLM movement have never stated a cop job is hard. This movie just wants people to be accountable. There is one character who is one of the filmmakers making this movie about this story and his speech about justice and accountability. That’s all these people want. That is what Linc who plays the main character who lost his son wants. The climax at the end is really tense and what a good climax should do which everything we have witness comes together at the end with a point and ends with a pulse pounding last moments. I know that some people will just shove this movie to the side because who is involved but please understand that this is an important movie about police brutality and the affect it has on the families which should overshadow what ever behind the scenes. This is a good movie with a great message which should not go unnoticed.
8/10 so far my favorite movie to watch of 2021. - DirectorAlexandre AjaStarsMélanie LaurentMathieu AmalricMalik ZidiA woman wakes in a cryogenic chamber with no recollection of how she got there. As she's running out of oxygen, she must rebuild her memory to find a way out of her nightmare.
- DirectorJoe CarnahanStarsFrank GrilloMel GibsonNaomi WattsTrapped in a time loop that constantly repeats the day of his murder, a former special forces agent must unlock the mystery behind his untimely demise.I haven’t seen it. But I do live close to LA where the director Joe Carnahan held a special screening way back in February and the way someone I know who did go to the screening told me I would love this movie. Like it is almost Taylor made for me. With the exception of Mel Gibson. But I am looking forward to actual seeing this film myself.- Before seeing it.
Joe Caranha has a very specific way of making his movies and I never realize just how much him and I have so much in common. Seriously if I was making an action movie it would be something like this. Take no mistake this is an action science film with also a lot of comedy in the mix as well. Frank Grillo here is the best action star to get for your film. He is great as Crossbones but he really does shine in films like The Purge and even an underrated action film like the Wheelman is where he can really shine. I’m just a fan of these types of action movies and listen I hate Mel Gibson but he does play a pretty good bad guy.
7/10 - DirectorSimon StoneStarsCarey MulliganRalph FiennesLily JamesAn archaeologist embarks on the historically important excavation of Sutton Hoo in 1938.A very solid and enjoyable film. It reminded me of last year’s Emma. Which also happens to star Johnny Flynn. Both professionally well made with performances that amazing to say the least. My only quiver is that I honestly didn’t care much about Lily James and her storyline. She is an amazing actress and does a great job here. But the two characters I feel more in lined with and couldn’t take my eyes off screen were Carey Mulligan who has been killing it and of course Ralph Fiennes. Who we rarely see in a lead role anymore. Here he is playing his usual self but I found him much more interesting his story dealing with his wife and time spent on this job. He defends Mrs. Pretty along with being reliable and trustworthy never turning his back on her. That part of the film is enjoyable because a wrench is thrown into the mix so I had no idea where it was going. Sadly I knew exactly where Lily James and Johnny Flynn’s storyline was going. So I didn’t care that much. The movie I have to say ends quite beautifully to say the least. It is kinda depressing because ultimately I myself can predict well after reading about this particular time I know what happens next. So it was nice to see Basil Brown get his due. Because at the time this guy was not even mentioned of what he discovered. So it is nice to see both Basil Brown and for that matter Edith Pretty be given such a well crafted movie that made me care about them. So it does not uplifting or anything like that it is just I don’t know it is something I can say it did stick with me at the end.

I’m telling you man that Fall line up is just getting good. Because holy crap with the one two punch of this and Midnight Mass, Netflix really are making up for what a lack luster year they have had. Before I even remotely touch on the technical aspects, performances, or even anything about the actual show I honestly can say I haven’t had fun with a show like this in a long time. This is an amazing show that truly over comes any cliches it can when it comes with this kind of story. We have seen this a ton of times with movies like The Hunger Games, The Running Man, Battle Royal, etc. etc. but this show manages to twist when you think it is going to turn. So it was really hard to get a grip on what is going on in this show. You hardly see that anymore. And with a gut punch of a 6 episode damn this show knows how good it truly is. However that ending I feel like they really dropped the ball. To me at least I did call the big twist. So it does get in the way of what could have been a killer ending but that is the only thing I would change. It is just freaking great. Seriously I couldn’t love the first 8 episodes and the first 20 minutes of episode 9 enough. This is not even a case of watching what everyone else is watching. Some shows really catch on because of hype and it over takes Twitter or any type discussion and it over takes any show on right now. Some Netflix and Disney+ shows are like that but I feel like this one managed to escape that. This not only lives up to the hype is surpasses it. My ranking of the games by how good and important they are to the story.
1.) Tug of War (the most exciting and the best one because it ends on a cliffhanger before it comes to an incredible end. My anxiety was through the roof and I love the team work aspect. And the introduction of #240 is just great.)
2.) Marbles (what is there to say. I haven’t cried like this in a while.)
3.) Glass Bridge (if not only for that awesome slow motion scene.)
4.) Green Light Red Light (yes it is the most popular and the one that starts it all because without this being here in the first episode this thing probably wouldn’t kick start like it did. But I feel like these one before it just had more of an impact.)
5.) Honeycomb (it was okay)
6.) Squid Game (crazy to think that name of this show and the one that started all of this is the most lackluster of the games. I still don’t truly understand the rules of this game and no spoilers but it doesn’t even matter in the end.
Still a great show with excellent potential to be a great franchise.
9.5/10 - StarsHailee SteinfeldKevin AlejandroJason SpisakSet in Utopian Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun, the story follows the origins of two iconic League Of Legends champions and the power that will tear them apart. This shit is straight fire.
- CreatorBrad IngelsbyStarsKate WinsletJulianne NicholsonJean SmartA detective in a small Pennsylvania town investigates a local murder while trying to keep her life from falling apart.Spoilers. I repeat SPOILERS.
Okay this show is really good. Like even by HBO standards this show is really good. Kate Winslet will most definitely get the nomination and maybe even the win. But for me it is Evan Peters. Don’t worry the “however” is coming. This show handles grief in very unconventional ways Thur the eyes of someone who is cold and keeps people at arms length based on her profession and overall what life as thrown at her. Great performances from all the females and while yes there is not a definitive co female lead to counter Kate Winslet hopeless nature but that is what makes Evan Peters so damn amazing.
So now onto the spoilers. Fuckkkkkkkkkk. They did my man dirty. I wanted him to live so badly and get with Kate Winslet. Let us young men get our milf representation. Yeah I get it Guy Pearce is a great actor and he is great in the show. But I really wanted to see my homeboy get with her. We need that type of representation. If older men are plastered all over media with hot young woman then why can’t us young guys see ourselves getting with hot older women.
That is my little rant. But even with that this is still a grade A show. With a killer finale that does not disappoint. I love this show and it was something really great to watch week after week.
