DBD DnD chapter release date, new killer, survivors, and perks

Dungeons and Dragons comes to Dead by Daylight with new Vecna chapter, and here's when you can play, and all the new perks and mechanics.

A close up on Vecna's face, his eyes glowing red, as part of the Dungeons and Dragons DBD chapter.

When is the DBD DnD chapter release date? As if we didn’t already get the two acronyms mixed up, it’s even more of a mouthful as the two come together in a Dungeons and Dragons x Dead by Daylight chapter.

With around four new chapters a year, it’s a wonder the team at Behaviour are able to come up with new perks and powers for the new DBD killers and survivors. Somehow they do, and the year nine Dead by Daylight roadmap confirms a total of nine new characters once again. The first new killer is Vecna, and while he may not be appearing as part of a Stranger Things chapter, we can’t wait for TTRPG Dungeons and Dragons – Vecna’s true origin – in Dead by Daylight. Here’s everything you need to know about the DBD DnD chapter release date, and don’t forget to also check out the latest DBD codes for Bloodpoints and cosmetics for your new main.

DBD Dungeons and Dragons PTB

The DBD DnD PTB goes live immediately after the 8th Anniversary livestream on May 14, 2024, at roughly 9am PDT, 12pm EDT, 5pm BST, when you can be among the first to try the Vecna chapter.

Dead by Daylight PTBs, or public test builds, are only available on PC via Steam, and allow players to test out upcoming features before they go live, making sure things are balanced well and checking for bugs. The full roll out usually takes place two weeks later, unless there are any major problems.

How to play the DBD PTB

To play the DBD DnD Chapter during the PTB, right click on the game in your Steam library and click ‘Properties’. Here, choose the ‘Betas’ tab, and select the ‘Public Test Build’ from the drop down menu. This will prompt the game to reinstall.

To go back to the vanilla game, you must change the setting back and reinstall the game once more.

DBD Vecna release date

The Dead by Daylight DnD chapter release date is June 3, 2024, and will be available to download at 9am PT, 12pm ET, 4pm GMT. The chapter includes a new killer, survivors, and gorgeous dungeon map.

New DBD killer – The Lich

We know you have been asking for Vecna to appear in Dead by Daylight for some time, and your wishes have finally come true. Sort of. Okay, so he might not be arriving with Robin and Max from Stranger Things, but this is the original and, dare we say, better Vecna, and the inspiration behind the Stranger Things character himself. Fans of Dungeons and Dragons will no doubt be excited to hear that the legendary Matthew Mercer is the voice actor behind the new DBD killer.

In Dungeons and Dragons, Liches are smart and powerful undead magic-users, usually with an affinity for necromancy. Vecna became the most powerful Lich of all time, and the ultimate evil.

The Lich abilities – The Book of Vile Darkness

As a powerful mage, the Lich carries around a spellbook: The Book of Vile Darkness. Harnessing the power of the book, Vecna can cast four spells, inspired by existing DnD spells:

  • Fly – lets Vecna pass over obstacles in his path for a short time.
  • Flight of the Damned – conjures flying spectral skeletons that pass-through obstacles and deal damage to all they hit.
  • Mage Hand – creates a ghastly, phantasmic hand that completes tasks such as holding and blocking the use of Pallets.
  • Dispelling Sphere – creates a moving AOE sphere that reveals Survivors and disables their Magical Items.

These powers seem to have similar effects to The Artist’s crows and The Knight’s guards, in that Vecna can shoot harmful projectiles towards distant survivors and passively damage pallets and generators.

The Lich perk – Weave Attunement

Survivor’s drop their item the first time it is fully depleted. Any survivor near the item has their aura revealed, but if a survivor picks it up, they become oblivious for a short time.

The Lich perk – Languid Touch

When a survivor spooks a crow within your terror radius, they become exhausted for a short time.

The Lich perk – Dark Arrogance

You can vault faster, but blinds and stuns last longer.

New DBD survivor – Aestri Yazar and Baermar Uraz

The Dungeons and Dragons chapter brings two survivors in one: Aestri Yazar, a female elf, and Baermar Uraz, a male human – both are bards. Rather than having their own perks, the two are one, but with a choice of which to play as. This is similar to the Legendary skins of, say, Claire Redfield or Saga Anderson.

Survivor perk – Mirrored Illusion

Mirrored Illusion spawns a decoy of yourself in front of a generator, chest, totem, or exit gate for a short time. Unlike similar spells in DnD, such a Mislead or Decoy Image, the decoy is static, so it may only deter the killer briefly.

Survivor perk – Bardic Inspiration

Inspired, of course, by the DnD spell of the same name, Bardic Inspiration brings a brand new mechanic to Dead by Daylight – dice rolling! Roll a D20 to inspire fellow Survivors with a Skill Check buff if you succeed.

Survivor perk – Still Sight

Still Sight allows you to see the auras of nearby generators, chests, and totems when you stand still. This could well replace Boon: Illumination or the use of maps, but doesn’t show auras to your teammates, and only shows objectives in a very close radius.

Dice Rolling!

As we mention above as part of the Bardic Inspiration perk, there is a brand new mechanic with this chapter: the ability to roll dice in-game. This extends beyond the survivor perk, also appearing as a killer-specific item, much like Wesker’s First Aid Spray or The Singularity’s EMPs. Seven chests appear around the map when playing against The Lich, and a D20 is automatically rolled when a player opens on of these chests.

  • Roll 2 – 3: Reveal a regular chest item.
  • Roll 4 – 19: Find a Magical item that provides a specific buff to directly counter one of Vecna’s spells.
  • Roll 1 (critical failure): You get nothing.
  • Roll 20 (critical success): Uncover a special Magical Item that can be used like a perk. These are powerful items, but you must be healthy to use them, and you become injured once used.
    • The Eye of Vecna: the user vanishes briefly when leaving a locker.
    • The Hand of Vecna: the user can teleport from one locker to another.

New DBD map – Forgotten Ruins

With this huge new chapter also comes a stunning new map – Forgotten Ruins, set within the existing Decimated Borgo realm. This incredible-looking map features both indoor and outdoor areas, with the inside looking like a more mystical version of Aerie of Crows. Venture into the dungeons beneath the towering building to uncover some of The Lich’s dark secrets.

New Passage map mechanic

The new Dungeons and Dragons map features a brand-new mechanic, with portals around the map, capable of transporting you – survivor and killer alike – across the map.
