I was very very fortunate to get the one & only last copy that was for sale in the whole world of this magnifcent box set of Ann-Margret's complete recordings from 1961-1966 here on Amazon. This box set show cases Ann-Margret stunning form in the studio. Some personal favourites for me were 2 songs she sung in the movie The Pleasure Seekers title track & "Next Time". The Bear Family have done a wonderful job at restoring all the tracks she recorded with RCA. I wished this box set was on itunes to download but why it isn't is beyond me. I don't think that there was anything that this woman couldn't do, respected actor, singer, dancer. There are so many standout tracks on this 5 disc box set that I couldn't tell you where to begin. But I will say this her version of "Mack the Knife" with Al Hirt stands up there with one of the best cover versions I have heard. The 72 page booklet also have some of the rarest photos of a young up and coming Ann-Margret before she was famous. This is truly a piece of history here, for me Ann-Margret will always be the singer before the actor for it was her voice that got me interested in her when I first saw the youtube clip of her singing on the Jack Benny show doing "I aint got nobody" & "Have a good time" which not long after this show she signed a recording contract with RCA for the next 7 years.
As with all Bear Family box sets the Ann-Margret, it contains an excellent book and nice remastering. I would have been nice if they could have included the songs she recorded at New Tier High School, the Elvis duet (Today, Tomorrow and Forever) and the Cowboy and the Lady album with Lee Hazelwood, but the RCA material is the bulk of her recording career. Like any package covering complete recordings from certain dates, there are hits and misses, but there are some forgotten gems.

I’m a Lucky Guy! I was able to grab this just before Amazon sold out.
Okay, I developed an Adolescent crush on Annie after seeing her in Bye Bye Birdie. Yes, and it’s still with me too.
This box set did not disappoint. The digitally Mastered sound is clear. It comes with a Large quality book to stroll down memory lane with one of the most talented, sexiest sounding and visually attractive ladies in the business. Thank you Annie for all the fun, for your service with USO and the overall pleasure of your entertainment talent.
You may have been Born in Sweden but, your an American treasure.

It's too bad this fantastic 1998 5-CD box-set from Bear Family covering Ann-Margret has gone out of print as, not only have the used prices literally gone through the roof but, until and unless some other distributor can come up with a reasonably-priced single CD, it`s the only place you are ever going to get all three of her nationally-charting singles for RCA Victor in 1961/62.
Listening to the sexy undercurrent in many of her songs it evokes memories of a young Eartha Kitt, nowhere more so than in her rendition of Lovin' Spree (track 3 in Disc 3) which had been a hit for Eartha at RCA in 1954. You have to think that, if Ann-Margret Olsson had WANTED to pursue a career as a recording artist pursuing hit singles she would easily have had way more than those three.
Her first - and best - was the haunting lament I Just Don't Understand which climbed into the Top 20 in August 1961, topping out at # 17 b/w I Don't Hurt Anymore on RCA Victor 7894. And although she didn't fare nearly as well with her second and third charters - It Do Me So Good - # 97 Hot 100 in November 1961 b/w Gimme Love on RCA Victor 7952, and What Am I Supposed To Do? - # 19 Adult Contemporary/# 82 Hot 100 in April 1962 b/w Let's Stop Kidding Each Other on RCA Victor 7986, this was probably due more to the weak material than her performance.
In addition to the hits and their B-sides you also get songs from the films she starred in such as Viva Las Vegas with Elvis, Bye Bye Birdie, her album cut with trumpeter Al Hirt and much, much more, all with excellent sound reproduction and detailed and informative liner notes (including biographical information) written by Todd Everett. The list of musicians/vocalists involved in the 133 tracks is nothing short of amazing - all detailed in the insert.
A re-issue by Bear Family would put a crimp in these outlandish used prices.
...and Bear Family records of Germany has done it again with this boxed showcase of all Ann-Margret's RCA Victor sessions from the decade of the sixties. After listening to these sensational tracks on 5 CDs, there will be no doubt that Ms. Margret's talents were at their peak behind the mic; but there's no doubt that many a dude will have her luscious image in mind while listening to this bachelor pad masterpiece collection. To help out with that are some vivacious sexpot poses in a stunning hardcover book that accompanies the CDs. Ann-Margret was truly an underrated pop princess, and it's surprising that RCA failed to make much of her recording career, especially since she was one of their rare female pop artists when the stereo LP became de riguer. She put real meaning into RCA's LP trademark: DYNAGROOVE! Some of the tracks that make this worth the price of admission, for those not strapped for cash: TEACH ME TONIGHT, THE BEST IS YET TO COME, BACHELOR IN PARADISE, WHAT DID I HAVE, BEGIN THE BEGUINE, SENOR BLUES, MR. KISS KISS BANG BANG and the piece-de-resistance, her rare recording of Andre and Dory Previn's THE SWINGER in stereo! So hot!
