Berlin, September 26, 20221899, the must-see series of the year by Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese starts November17, exclusively on Netflix. The eight-part thriller is about mysterious events surrounding the initially hopeful passengers of an immigrant ship on its way from Europe to New York.

New images show perilous scenes below deck and give us more details about the elaborate sets and the specially designed and fabricated costumes, like the bright Japanese kimono.

1899 has already impressed critics and fans at the Toronto International Film Festival, with its fascinating story and unique multilingual format – not to mention the visual impact. The international ensemble of Andreas Pietschmann, Emily Beecham, Miguel Bernaudeau, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Maciej Musial, Aneurin Barnard, José Pimentão, Mathilde Ollivier, Clara Rosager, Yann Gael, Isabella Wei, Gabby Wong, Rosalie Craig, Maria Erwolter and Alexandre Willaumeall speak in their respective mother tongues, making the series utterly unique and giving it an undeniable, global appeal.

About 1899 The eight episodes follow mysterious events during the voyage of an immigrant ship from Europe to New York. The passengers, all of different backgrounds, are united by their hopes for a new century and their future abroad. When they discover a second ship adrift on the open sea that had gone missing for months, their journey takes an unexpected turn. What they find on board will turn their passage to the promised land into a nightmare-like riddle, connecting each of the passenger’s pasts through a web of secrets.
