Songs included in selection were not itemized in description of product listed for sale.. We had selected Johnny Mathis's "12th of never song for our wedding song in 1972 and had collected several of his albums (all including that song over the first 10 years after our marriage BUT during 12 relocations some requiring drastic downsizing we had to surrender our record player and the albums by Johnny Mathis and other stars of yesteryear. Coming up to our 51st Anniversary this year we decided to recreate our sentimental wedding song library and was surprised to learn that our song was not included in a selection dubbed as"16 most requested ENCORES of JOHNNY MATHIS".
Sixteen (16) Most Requested Songs Encore gives us another excellent set of songs that were so popular when performed by the great Johnny Mathis. Johnny Mathis sings smoother than silk on this album and I love every minute of this. The artwork is about par for this CD series; but the quality of the sound is excellent.
"I Just Found Out About Love" starts the CD off with Johnny swinging brightly to make this number take off like a jet! The lush musical arrangement uses the strings and the brass to great advantage. Awesome! "Call Me" slows down the pace and features Johnny front and center with a chorus in the background to bolster his performance. "Call Me" shines like gold when Johnny sings it; and you can tell you're listening to a master when Johnny sings this so beautifully. Listen also for "Come To Me;" "Come To Me" showcases the operatic qualities of Johnny's voice and it all works very well.
"Tonight" is from the show West Side Story; Johnny aces this straight out of the ballpark as he delivers this without a flaw! Johnny's ability to handle key and tempo changes also enhances his performance. "My Funny Valentine" starts with Johnny singing a rarely heard opening verse; and when he goes into the better known lyrics this ballad truly takes flight. It's extremely impressive.
"The Best Of Everything" has a terrific arrangement for the strings; and Johnny was born to sing classic love songs like this one! There's a backup chorus but they needn't have added it; Johnny was more than capable of handling this on his own. In addition, there's also "My Love For You." "My Love For You" stuns me with its beauty and I'll never forget Johnny Mathis singing this gorgeous love song.
"Too Much, Too Little, Too Late" is an awesome duet between Johnny and Deniece Williams; their voices complement each other completely and they make this number instantly recognizable even if you haven't heard this for years. "Life Is A Song Worth Singing" ends the album with quite a flourish; I really like "Life Is A Song Worth Singing."
Johnny Mathis fans will love this album--although they may already have these tunes in their collections. This is a fine album for the casual fan or newcomers to Johnny Mathis just wanting to find out if they like him enough to get more of his albums.
